Native American/American Indian Studies (Part-Time Faculty Pool) – Reedley College, Reedley, CA
Role OverviewReedley College seeks an equity‑minded, part‑time faculty member to teach Native American/American Indian Studies courses, collaborate with cross‑disciplinary faculty, and support the college’s mission to serve a diverse student body. The instructor will work closely with the Cultural & Women’s Studies Department, the Resources for American Indian Needs (RAIN) learning community, campus and community partners, and student success teams to promote equitable learning environments.
EssentialFunctions of Position
- Teach a part‑time schedule of Native American/American Indian Studies courses as assigned.
- Coordinate and collaborate with other discipline faculty and the Cultural & Women’s Studies Department.
- Maintain currency in Native American/American Indian Studies.
- Teach classes for and work with the RAIN learning community.
- Work with campus and community organizations to complement and enhance the Native American/American Indian Studies programs.
- Participate in program development and expansion of Native American/American Indian Studies courses, including connections with industry and Career and Guided Pathways.
- Use a variety of pedagogies and integrate a wide range of instructional delivery systems, including innovative and creative uses of technology for face‑to‑face, online, and/or hybrid formats.
- Communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff.
- Use effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter and adhere to institutionally approved curriculum course outlines of record.
- Evaluate student progress through tests, examinations, written assignments, oral responses, and other assessments in keeping with course objectives.
- Provide course syllabi to students.
- Maintain classroom records in accordance with district policy.
- Turn in all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
- Teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including classes as needed.
- Otherwise fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Master’s degree in Native American/American Indian Studies; or Master’s degree in Ethnic Studies and a bachelor’s degree in Native American/American Indian Studies; or a valid California Community College Credential; or equivalency based on education and/or experience.
- Experience and skill in incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion across all areas of responsibility.
- Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom.
- Willingness to examine and remediate instructional, relational, and classroom practices to better engage and support racially minoritized students.
- Related work and professional experience, including experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
- Experience working with traditionally underrepresented student populations, such as students of color and foster youth.
- Experience facilitating multicultural and cross‑cultural communication with sensitivity to diverse backgrounds.
- Experience with under‑prepared and high‑need students at the community college level.
- Demonstrated ability and desire to collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, student learning support, and student success.
- Proficiency with computers and technologies used for high‑quality instruction and support.
- Strong communication skills with students and staff.
- Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials.
- Extent and breadth of previous teaching experience at the post‑secondary level in Native American/American Indian Studies, including large group instruction and online teaching.
