Linguistics Instructor (Part‑Time Faculty Pool) – Reedley College
OverviewThis position is part of a continuous recruitment program for part‑time faculty. Candidates will be added to an applicant pool and reviewed when vacancies arise.
Responsibilities- Teach assigned part‑time Linguistics courses on a schedule that may include face‑to‑face, online, or hybrid formats.
- Employ a variety of pedagogical approaches and integrate technology to enhance instruction.
- Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
- Apply approved curriculum outlines and teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter.
- Assess student progress through tests, examinations, written assignments, oral responses, and other assessment methods in line with course objectives.
- Prepare and distribute course syllabi to students.
- Maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy.
- Submit all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
- Teach assignments in diverse instructional settings and at varied times as needed.
- Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Either:
- Master’s degree in linguistics or applied linguistics;
- Bachelor’s degree in linguistics plus a Master’s in TESOL, anthropology, psychology, sociology, English, or any foreign language;
- A valid California Community College Credential;
- The equivalent education and/or experience (requiring an equivalency).
- All degrees must match the qualifications listed above exactly; alternatively, applicants may petition for equivalency.
- Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into teaching responsibilities.
- Recent work with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students.
- Willingness to examine and improve instructional practices to better engage and support racially minoritized students.
- Professional experience related to community college instruction.
- Experience working with students from varied cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities.
- Experience with traditionally under‑represented student populations such as students of color and foster youth.
- Skill in facilitating multicultural and cross‑cultural communication with sensitivity to diverse backgrounds.
- Sensitivity to under‑prepared and high‑need community college students.
- Collaboration with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student success.
- Proficiency with computers and instructional technologies that support high‑quality instruction.
- Strong communication skills with students and staff.
- Understanding of the community college mission and goals.
- Placed on step one of the Part‑Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
- Salary classification based on education and experience as outlined in the Part‑Time Faculty Salary Classifications.
- Sick leave accrual based on assignment hours.
