Job Summary Sask Power’s Coal Life Extension team is seeking a Project Manager with significant industrial project management experience to lead Coal Life Extension projects including the major refurbishment of existing units. This role will report to the Manager of Coal Life Extension and be based out of Regina Saskatchewan. The Project Manager is accountable to provide leadership and direction to a project team and/or a portfolio of projects focused on life extending Sask Power’s existing coal fired generating stations.
The Project Manager will require extensive knowledge of advanced project management practices for industrial projects. Experience in thermal power plants and development/administration of large commercial contracts will be considered an asset. As a member of Sask Power’s management team, this position is responsible for the effective utilization of people, material, financial resources and human capital in order to manage, coordinate and lead major projects for the whole project lifecycle;
ensuring alignment with departmental and corporate strategic goals and objectives. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience leading large scale power generation, transmission, distribution or industrial projects as well as a proven background in engineering and/or industrial construction management. Experience in contract development, negotiations and administration will be considered an asset. The candidate’s experience must demonstrate strong leadership, collaboration, communication, and stakeholder engagement with internal and external groups.
As a senior role within the department, mentorship and coaching of project teams and junior employees is expected.
Key Accountabilities Provide effective leadership to the project team in order to define project requirements and develop and maintain project deliverables within all knowledge areas (scope, schedule, cost, risk, procurement, etc.) for effective delivery of projects.
Manage and resolve any project risks or issues and execute change control as necessary ensuring that project deliverables are completed within baseline budget and schedule and are in compliance with Sask Power policies and procedures.
Oversee the preparation of contract proposals and provide contract administration throughout the project life cycle to ensure contractor compliance with agreements.
Monitor project critical paths and trends, identify delay factors, and lead the development, presentation and approval of schedule recovery plans.
Maintain knowledge of industry developments and best practices related to area of specialization and adapt them to Sask Power's operational environment. Develop and implement appropriate quality, change management and communication strategies
Anticipate, assess and manage project risks during execution
Assess, develop and implement new technologies, standards, processes and methodologies
Collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure necessary and qualified personnel are assigned to projects
Represent Sask Power on matters both internal and external to the corporation
Manage and report on project metrics including progress, earned value, baseline, costs, and scope.
Prepare progress reports and issue progress schedules to clients, senior management and executive staff
Ensure project plans and activities are implemented in accordance with applicable technical, environmental and safety regulations, policies and procedures
Provide and demonstrate leadership, team building and direction to project personnel including Sask Power and Contractor employees
