Carpenter!Reporting to the Structural Supervisors (Maintenance) and (Projects), this position is responsible for providing skilled carpentry services related to construction, remodeling, and repair of all University facilities. Instructions may be received verbally or in the form of written work orders.
One position is a available as a one-year term.
What You’ll Do:Operate equipment such as saws, planers, drills, sanders, jointers and wood lathes in constructing and repairing cupboards, shelving, etc.Construct walls, ceilings and partitions on remodeling/maintenance jobs, using both wood and metal components.Use any of the carpenters’ manual or power hand tools required in constructing, altering or repairing buildings or fixtures.Install hinges, locksets, shelf brackets and other building hardware.Install floor and ceiling tiles, and install or replace other building fabrics.Construct and install millwork as required.Assist in providing introductory training to new carpenters or apprentices.Supervise an apprentice or a labourer as assigned.Inspect University buildings, facilities and hard landscape components for needed servicing and repairs.Maintain building interiors and exteriors.Prepare framing form-work for concrete placement.Mix and pour concrete.Set up scaffolding for various trades crews on campus.Install and repair wood and metal doors.Hang various items such as marker boards, cork-boards, banners, and plaques.Create and maintain a safe, clean and neat work environment.Respond to emergency calls by assuring prompt resolution of problems.Perform work on Capital and Maintenance projects as assigned.Repair and install auditorium, gym, lunchroom, stadium seating including benches and bleachers.Repair gym equipment such as glass backboards, volleyball equipment, and weight machines.Respond to roof leaks by setting up water diversion equipment.Plus More: Be ready to take on additional related tasks as assigned – your role is dynamic and essential to our success!Why Join Us? Position Requirements What You’ll Bring to this Position:Successful completion of technical school training in the carpentry trade and certification requirements for a Journeyperson Carpenter.Minimum of five years of related experience.An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.Preference will be given to those individuals with one or more of the following: flat roofing membrane repair, finishing carpentry, maintenance experience.Possession of a valid Saskatchewan vehicle driver’s license (Class
