Lead Carpenter – Commercial Doors & Hardware
Job Description
This hands-on leadership role oversees a crew of up to five installers while actively participating in the installation of commercial doors, frames, and hardware on new construction projects across Western Canada. The Lead Carpenter ensures that commercial hollow metal, wood, and specialty doors, as well as associated hardware, are installed safely, accurately, and on schedule. This position is ideal for an experienced installer who enjoys leading teams while remaining fully engaged in field work on active construction sites.
Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and motivate a crew of up to five installers on active construction sites.
Install commercial hollow metal, wood, and specialty doors to meet project specifications and quality standards.
Install, adjust, and fine-tune door hardware including locks, hinges, closers, panic devices, and related components.
Read and interpret blueprints, hardware schedules, and project specifications to plan and execute installations accurately.
Coordinate daily site activities to keep projects on schedule and align work with overall construction timelines.
Perform minor welding and repairs using MIG and flux-core equipment as required by site conditions.
Troubleshoot installation issues and complete field modifications to resolve fit, function, or alignment problems.
Maintain high standards of quality, safety, and productivity on site, ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines.
Communicate effectively with project managers, general contractors, and site personnel to report progress and address issues.
Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment, including proper care and use of tools and equipment.
Support out-of-town projects when required, adapting to different sites and schedules.
Work overtime and occasional weekends when needed to meet project deadlines.
Essential Skills
Several years of experience as a carpenter with strong hands‑on skills in commercial construction.
Proven experience in commercial door and hardware installation, including frames, doors, and associated hardware.
Demonstrated ability to oversee and direct a crew of up to five people on site.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, hardware schedules, and project specifications.
Proficiency with power tools and basic hand tools used in carpentry and door installation.
Experience installing and adjusting hardware such as locks, hinges, closers, and panic devices.
Capability to perform minor welding and repairs using MIG and flux-core equipment.
Willingness to work out of town when required.
Willingness to work overtime and weekends when needed to support project timelines.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving abstract.
Ownership of basic hand tools suitable for carpentry and installation work.
Use of 6" steel‑toe work boots appropriate for construction sites.

Skills & Qualifications
Experience working on commercial new construction projects.
Advanced Work Platform (AWP) certification is an asset.
Fall protection (Fall PRO) training or certification is an asset.
Automatic door operator (ADO) experience is an asset.
Strong communication skills for coordinating with project managers, general contractors, and site personnel.
Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and professional work area.
Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
