GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY
The Equipment Operator II is a skilled position responsible for operating commercial vehicles and specialized equipment to support the maintenance, cleanliness, and safety of city streets, beaches, and public areas. This role requires a Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and advanced knowledge of equipment operation, including dump trucks, street sweepers, backhoes, snowplows, and excavation equipment. The Equipment Operator II is also expected to perform more complex maintenance tasks, assist in training junior operators, and take a leadership role in assigned projects.
ESSENTIALDUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Operate and maintain heavy motorized equipment, including loaders, tractors, leaf machines, dumpsters, CDL trash trucks, and beach rakes.
- Collect and dispose of trash from city streets, beaches, and public areas.
- Operate street cleaning and sweeping equipment to maintain roadways and sidewalks.
- Assist in repairing and maintaining city streets.
- Perform seasonal duties such as snow removal, leaf collection, and clearing tree branches.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of the beach, boardwalk, and surrounding areas.
- Provide support for event and storm clean-up operations.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and city regulations while operating equipment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- A high school diploma (or GED equivalent)
- Additional training or up to one (1) year of job-related course work after high school
- At least six (6) months to (1) year of related work experience
- Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
- Possession of a valid Commercial Driver License (CDL)
- The ability to respond to emergency call in, rotating on call scheduling and some weekends based on operational needs of the City.
- Operation and maintenance of medium to heavy motorized equipment.
- Routine maintenance procedures for equipment and tools.
- Safety policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Landscaping techniques for public spaces, including beaches and streets.
- Municipal streets, and public areas.
- Operating and maintaining various equipment, including loaders, backhoes, graders, flatbed trucks, and pickup trucks.
- Performing a variety of tasks efficiently and adapting to changing work assignments.
- Providing excellent customer service and maintaining professional interactions with residents and city staff.
- Communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Meet assigned work schedules and deadlines.
- Follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
- Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and the public.
