Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H Educational Center is seeking licensed RNs to join our team for the 2026 Summer Camp season! The Camp Nurse serves as a vital member of the Camp Healthcare Team, overseeing all health care operations for approximately 120 residential campers each week. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with youth of all ages, have the ability to work in unpredictable outdoor conditions, and thrive in a fast-paced dynamic environment outside of the clinical setting.

Due to the on-call nature of this position, applicants must be able to reside on‑site (housing provided) or within a half‑hour commute of camp for the duration of the summer season.

• Follow all health care policies/procedures
• Be on call to respond to medical emergencies at any time when campers are on‑site, including overnight
• Perform basic assessment and first aid for conditions including minor soft tissue and musculoskeletal injuries, insect bites/stings, dehydration, sunburns, general illness; provide follow‑up checks as needed
• Facilitate proper medication administration, for both routine prescription and over‑the‑counter medications, during all administration periods throughout the day
• Maintain written medical records for all medications and treatments administered according to state and American Camp Association standards
• Prepare and record insurance and accident report forms
• Oversee Sunday check‑in and Friday check‑out of all camper medications each week, discussing any medical concerns with parent/guardian as needed
• Review all camper health forms and communicate medical needs to counselors as necessary
• Manage a team of 1–2 Health Care Coordinators who may assist with primary and secondary responsibilities
• Prepare and distribute campers' medication schedule list to all counselors before dinner on Sundays

• Attend all relevant staff trainings
• Keep camp infirmary and medical supply storage space clean and organized
• Prepare and distribute all campus first aid kits, conducting routine checks and restocks as necessary
• Perform medical supply/equipment inventory and place restock orders

The summer season runs from May 29th – August 7th, 2026. Workdays begin at noon on Sunday and end at noon on Friday. These positions demand a high level of responsibility and attention to detail. The camp nurse will be on call 24/7, including overnight, meal times and during activities. Lodging (7 days a week, if needed) and meals (5 days a week) are provided.

Minimum Experience/

Education:

Currently licensed to practice as an LPN, RN, or APRN within North Carolina.

Preferred Experience:

First Aid / CPR / AED certified.

Required Licenses and

Certifications:

LPN, RN, or APRN; valid driver's license.

Skills:

Positive attitude, professionalism, experience in nursing or medical field, medication administration, independent work & following directions, enjoyment working with youth outdoors, ability to work in extreme weather, effective communication with staff, parents/guardians, and campers, critical thinking in emergency situations, and assessment of when higher level of care is required.

Salary range: $28–$35 per hour.
