Are you mechanically minded, comfortable using basic hand tools and interested in developing a practical engineering career?

We are supporting a growing engineering business looking to recruit a Trainee Mechanical Installation Engineer. Previous experience installing ductwork or ventilation systems is not required, as training will be provided.

This could be an excellent opportunity for an early-career candidate who has gained practical experience as a labourer, trades mate, installer, mechanical assistant or similar. It may also suit someone with a mechanical engineering qualification or a strong hands-on interest in machinery and engineering.

The role

Working alongside experienced engineers, you will help install mechanical ventilation and extraction systems, ductwork and workshop machinery at customer sites.

Your responsibilities will gradually include:

* Assisting with the installation of ductwork, extraction systems and machinery

* Using hand and power tools safely and effectively

* Helping to assemble, position and set up mechanical equipment

* Following drawings, instructions, method statements and site safety procedures

* Preparing materials, equipment and components for installation

* Supporting servicing and breakdown work when required

* Completing basic job documentation

* Looking after company tools, equipment, vehicle and stock

* Developing your knowledge of mechanical ventilation and Local Exhaust Ventilation systems

What we’re looking for

You do not need previous experience in this specific industry. More important is a positive attitude, practical ability and willingness to learn.

You may have:

* Some experience as a trades mate, labourer, mechanical assistant or site installer

* Basic mechanical, fitting or assembly skills

* Confidence using common hand and power tools

* A mechanical engineering qualification, apprenticeship experience or practical interest in engineering

* The ability to follow instructions and work safely on customer sites

* A reliable, hardworking and professional approach

* A full UK driving licence

Location and travel

This is a home-based, field engineering role involving regular travel to customer sites, mainly throughout Scotland’s Central Belt.

There will occasionally be projects requiring overnight stays from Monday to Friday. Travel and accommodation will be arranged and paid for by the company.

What’s provided

* Fully expensed company van

* Mobile phone and tablet

* All tools and test equipment

* Full PPE

* Training and support from experienced engineers

* The opportunity to develop valuable mechanical installation and engineering skills

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing business and build a long-term, hands-on engineering career within a specialist sector
