Basic Purpose

Directs the activities of the Plant Accounting and Fuel and Purchase Power groups and for supporting the various Company’s strategic initiatives. Ensures adequate accounting system controls for plant accounting, materials, transportation, inventories and the related accounting activities and transactions. Verifies and directs the teams’ technical knowledge of plant and fuel and purchase power accounting as it relates to SEC requirements and U.S. generally accepted accounting practices (“US GAAP”).

The position directs the performance of various financial and strategic analysis as required and assists with various regulatory filings and orders issued by the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Directs the preparation and review of reports, analyses, journal entries and reconciliations related to plant and cost of energy related accounting for the Company. Responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of all documents prepared by staff for internal as well as external reporting purposes which includes financial statements, templates and various other deliverable from the plant and fuel and purchase power accounting areas.

Oversees the preparation of outputs from the Plant and Fuel and Purchase Power groups which includes regulatory rate reviews and deferred energy filings calculations in compliance with regulations and Commission directives for state and FERC jurisdictional filings. Manages fuel and purchased power recovery mechanisms and required filings. Manages the completion of various state and FERC reporting requirements.

Responsible for research, understanding and documentation of regulatory decisions relating to plant and cost of energy accounting orders. In addition supports the preparation and testifies, as needed, in testimony, regulatory responses to data request and other similar work, as needed. This position also maintains control documents related to plant and fuel and purchase power accounting as required under provisions of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.

Supports and develops the assumptions of the Company’s annual 10-year plan as it related to the areas of plant and fuel and purchase power accounting.

Directs the development and implementation of analytical tools such as performance metrics and benchmarking to identify gaps, efficiency gains and savings opportunities. Identifies process and report improvements for plant and fuel and purchase power accounting areas. Works with appropriate teams to implement improvements.

Ensures departmental operations and maintenance expenses and capital projects are delivered within approved spending limits.

Directs production and review of corporate reports, investor presentations, rating agency presentations and other financial information required by management as it relates to plant and fuel and purchase power accounting areas.

Monitors and enforces all compliance requirements for area of responsibility.

Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.

Performs related duties as assigned.
