Overview

If you are the type of person who likes daily variety, the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) is seeking a qualified candidate to join our Reno-Stead Airport team as an Operations Specialist to perform a wide variety of highly responsible administrative functions. Stead is the Reno-Tahoe International Airport’s sister airport to the north, a 5,000-acre facility with general aviation services;
Stead is an FAA designated UAS (drones) test range.

The position is open with a minimum qualification review required. A fully completed official RTAA Employment Application must be received by August 2, 2026

The Operations Specialist – Stead provides paraprofessional duties in an assistive role for the Reno–Stead General Aviation Airport, interacting by phone, email and written correspondence with internal and external customers. The work involves analytical and critical thinking to determine appropriate action and includes regular involvement with sensitive or confidential information.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate hangar inspection process with tenants and Airport Fire Inspectors; organize to minimize inconvenience and maximize productivity with detailed inspection protocols.
  • Draft and deploy NOTAMs and airfield condition reports to maintain safe airfield conditions; update the AWOS.
  • Maintain and administer the security card/gate access program; monitor and review security camera processes.
  • Handle may-day calls and track information on missing aircraft; communicate status.
  • Assist Airport Staff with tracking information needed to maintain environmental compliance.
  • Calculate costs for services, compare fee collections to costs, obtain estimates, and recommend fee structure adjustments.
  • Maintain and update the public-facing website calendar of events.
  • Assist with tenant relations, special events, and communication of pertinent information.
  • Provide Snow Desk support at Reno Stead Airport and, if needed, at Reno-Tahoe International Airport.
  • Create and provide new employee orientation tours for Stead Airport.
  • Serve as liaison to building managers, owners, and contractors to coordinate maintenance, security alarms, phone systems, and access passes.
  • Receive and screen calls and correspondence; assess importance; respond or refer as appropriate.
  • Support for scheduling and coordinating special events, projects, activities, and annual safety inspections.
  • Manage the Stead terminal community room schedule and process related agreements and payments with community groups.
  • Research and assemble information for reports and correspondence; format complex materials with attention to accuracy and confidentiality; ensure compliance with RTAA standards.
  • This position may be considered essential personnel and may respond to airport incidents as required.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
  • Knowledge of RTAA structure, policies, procedures, and office practices.
  • Knowledge of effective office administration, management practices, and English usage.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, graphics and other business software.
  • Strong organizational skills, information control, and document management.
  • Knowledge of budget, purchasing, inventory, and personnel systems.
  • Ability to assimilate information quickly and understand airport programs and systems (e.g., access control, FAA applications).
  • Customer-service orientation with ability to identify underlying needs and provide appropriate services.
  • Typing speed appropriate for job duties; ability to operate current office equipment.
  • Ability to master multiple databases and programs supporting general aviation, air service, and compliance.
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws, codes, regulations, and RTAA policies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to maintain confidential information and exercise independent judgment.
Entry Salary

$31.37 - $36.54 hourly based on experience, with opportunity for annual step-based increases up to a maximum of $41.72
