Job Summary

Working with the Department of Public Works (DPW) Business Services Team, the DPW Site Services Dispatcher will deliver high-level organizational support to the Site Services Manager. This role focuses on sanitation, grey‑water, and trailer servicing requests, providing customer service to various Burning Man departments throughout the event production cycle. It is responsible for coordinating and dispatching portos, water tanks, shower facilities, and RV pumping for staff at the Burning Man event, working closely with the third‑party vendor that performs the servicing.

The dispatcher will track and manage information regarding end‑user requests and changes, schedule work, prepare vendor dispatch sheets, delegate physical resources, and provide budgeting notations for end‑season reconciliation.

This temporary, ineligible for benefits role will run from August to September as full‑time, non‑exempt and is based in Black Rock City, Nevada.

Duties & Essential Job Functions Documentation / Administrative Support (80%)
  • Provide site services support to the Site Services Manager and DPW Logistics Manager.
  • Perform daily administrative duties such as dispatching, calendaring, data entry, spreadsheet management, and email while meeting logistics deadlines.
  • Handle radio dispatch requests and observations for sanitation and trailer servicing.
  • Answer incoming and make outgoing calls on 2‑way radio regarding portos, tank filling and pumping, and shower facilities.
  • Guide and set service expectations through Slack channels and other social mediums.
  • Work with Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive), Microsoft Word and Excel, and any additional online tools required.
  • Maintain equipment for printing and copying requests.
  • Deliver clear, concise, and diplomatic oral and written communications.
  • Document and capture all relevant site services information via radio, email, and Google Sheets.
Personnel Support (15%)
  • Greet and interface with departmental representatives/leads in operational spaces.
  • Reasonably and creatively assist staff with problem‑solving efforts and alternate solutions.
  • Receive inquiries, feedback, changes, and scenarios with patience and grace from a customer‑service lens.
  • Maintain the integrity of the Logistics Department by allocating resources and helping departments stay within budget and timeline constraints.
  • Prepare written feedback for DPW Management describing the season’s successes, areas for improvement, and suggestions for next year; submit an end‑of‑season EMBER report.
Other Functions and Responsibilities (5%)
  • Operate between office and field objectives on a daily basis.
  • Plan and execute LNT and waste disposal plans for all relevant operations.
  • Adhere to Burning Man’s staff policies, protocols, and behavioral standards.
  • Monitor personal well‑being by setting realistic goals and managing self‑care, and address concerns with management.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Learning and Teaching
  • Assist in creating, publishing, and maintaining process documentation related to assigned duties.
  • Help acculturate and educate junior staff in Burning Man culture and business processes.
  • Pursue ongoing learning in the area of expertise to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes.
