Job Overview
The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is recruiting five members to serve on the Board of Directors of the Residential Housing Association (RHA). Each board member will work under the supervision of the Coordinator for Student Engagement and collaborate with the RHA Executive Board to promote engagement through intentional programming, resources, advocacy, and operational support for residents across all Residential Life, Housing, and Food Services communities.
Responsibilities- Chair or assist with department-wide committees.
- Collaborate with the RHA Executive team to plan and organize events and programs.
- Maintain the RHA Resource Center, schedule office hours, and monitor the check‑in/check‑out process of office resources.
- Act as the RHA liaison to community Leadership Councils.
- Create and gather information related to marketing and promotion of activities within the department.
- Manage the organization’s social media accounts.
- Attend regular one‑on‑one meetings with RHA advisors.
- Perform administrative duties as assigned by the RHA Executive Board or advisors in the areas of Administration, Programming, Advocacy, and Marketing.
- Fill in for a missing executive board position if necessary.
- Attend all Fall and Spring trainings in person.
- Complete weekly RHA reports.
- Assist with the development of agendas for board meetings.
- Complete assigned office hours in the RHA Resource Center.
- Full‑time student at the University of Nevada, Reno.
- Enroll in a minimum of 15 credits per semester (maximum 17 credits); employers may request fewer or more credits with approval.
- Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA (semester and cumulative) while holding the position.
- Knowledge of residential life operations and procedures, conflict resolution, and Nevada System of Higher Education policies.
- Understanding of RHA, RLHFS, and university financial guidelines; familiarity with Nevada Open Meeting Law and Roberts Rules of Order.
- Administrative and organizational skills; personnel supervision/management; leadership; interpersonal communication; dispute and conflict resolution; public relations and customer service.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; decision‑making and creative problem solving.
- Proficiency with a personal computer and software such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, email).
- Ability to work and interact with diverse populations of students, parents, faculty, and staff in a positive and productive manner; maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Plan and implement programs that support departmental goals; exercise sound judgment to make objective, fair, and consistent decisions.
- Support the university, student services, and departmental mission and goals; work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.
Expected hours: 10–15 hours per week. Compensation: $12.00 per hour. Attendance at all RHA-sponsored events is considered mandatory unless preapproved by the Coordinator for Student Engagement.
