Project Engineer
Serves as liaison between the Client, Project Manager, and Subcontractors to ensure a construction project proceeds safely, accurately, and smoothly. Delegated responsibility for elements that bring the project from plans to close out, including document control, submittal management, RFI management, procurement, change order management, contracts administration, issue resolution, safety auditing, and field coordination support.
Responsibilities- Maintain job files (RFIs, specifications, addenda, construction documents, etc.) in hard and soft copies as required.
- Prepare, review, and distribute RFIs, submittals, and other contract documents promptly and ensure compliance with contract documents.
- Purchase and monitor delivery of all needed materials, ensuring optimum prices, quality, and conformance to specifications.
- Execute the project within the initial financial boundaries.
- Develop and manage job progress schedules and ensure construction proceeds in parallel with the schedule.
- Ensure subcontracts are executed, insurance is in place, and clear definitions of work responsibilities are provided to subcontractors and vendors; review and approve vendor/subcontractor payment requests.
- Manage the procurement log with the Project Manager and Project Superintendent to avoid delays or impacts.
- Review subcontract and self‑perform change orders on the jobsite; perform quantity takeoffs to validate change requests.
- Manage the closeout matrix and rolling completion log; compile operation and maintenance manuals for owner closeout packages.
- Assist in other duties as assigned, relevant to the achievement of the position’s and team’s objectives.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Experience in the construction industry in a related role preferable, but not required.
- Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Project, Word), PDF, estimating, and document programs.
- Demonstrates a high level of emotional intelligence and the ability to build relationships with multiple personality types.
- Possesses a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record in accordance with Fortis policy.
- Able to perform physical requirements: standing or walking for long periods, utilizing standard office equipment, communicating with internal and external contacts, and occasionally moving equipment up to 50lbs.
- Willing to travel as required by the role.
