Job Overview
The Construction Safety Specialist II is responsible for promoting a safe & healthy work environment, promoting continuous improvement of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) systems that results in the reduction of incidents and ensures regulatory compliance. The position assists with developing and directing the implementation of safety programs and assures management takes actions to improve employee safety. The Specialist works directly with project‑level functional leads to integrate and address applicable safety/health requirements in all work products and activities.
Responsibilities- Conduct safety assessments/inspections of projects under construction to monitor compliance with safety/health requirements, contractual commitments, laws, regulations, and site‑specific environmental, safety and health plans.
- Collaborate with management to develop, prepare and implement environmental, safety and security policies and procedures.
- Identify opportunities to eliminate workplace injuries, accidents and health problems.
- Assist the Safety Manager or Corporate Safety & Risk Manager with the development of Method of Procedure (MOP) and critical activity plans.
- Conduct investigations into employee or subcontractor injuries, motor vehicle accidents, spills, discharges, theft, vandalism and property damages, and develop written reports including root cause analysis.
- Provide safety & compliance training for supervisors and field employees as directed by the Corporate Safety & Risk Manager.
- Provide comprehensive written reports to document site visits, activities and incidents as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- 5+ years of safety experience in a construction setting, with knowledge of injury prevention, compliance and risk reduction techniques.
- OSHA 30 Construction certificate valid within 5 years.
- Trade experience with a board‑certified safety credential such as CSP, ASP or CHST and five years of full‑time construction safety management experience, or OSHA 500 within 3 years and five years of full‑time construction safety experience.
- Knowledge of state and federal safety regulations as applied to construction and general industry.
- First Aid, CPR & AED certifications; willingness to lead in an emergency event.
- Competent Person certifications:
Electrical safety (NFPA 70E), Excavation, Fall protection and Confined space. - Self‑driven and capable of working alone or as part of a team on assigned tasks and initiatives.
- Ability to work split shifts, overtime, weekends and travel as needed.
- Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other applications.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, supervisory and leadership skills.
- Occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach with hands and arms at waist level and below the waist; work in limited space.
- Regularly required to talk, hear and communicate detailed information; sit for long and short periods; walk for long and short distances; reach, see and use vision without correction as needed.

Must be able to travel up to 75% of the time to onsite project sites and attend meetings as needed.
Reporting StructureReports to the Safety Manager within the E.H.S. department.
