USAC Ambassador

USAC is a nonprofit, university-affiliated study abroad organization headquartered on the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) campus. Since 1982, USAC has provided students with opportunities to gain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to succeed in a global society. USAC currently operates 50+ programs in 25+ countries.

The USAC Ambassador position is a part-time position serving as the first point of contact for students, families, and university staff who are interested in University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC). USAC Ambassadors primarily work with the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) community seeking basic advisement, public speaking, answering phones, attending events, and responding to inquiries and questions via phone, email, and in-person events.

USAC Ambassadors assist students in determining which study abroad program is the best fit for them, help answer general pre-departure, visa, and UNR-specific questions, edit documents, enter and process data, and complete other tasks as assigned. The ideal candidate will have proficient computer skills, communication, organization, flexibility, time management, and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, and Excel).

Additionally, they will have experience providing friendly and helpful customer service while being open to learning and tackling new challenges in a busy and dynamic work environment.

This is a part-time, non-exempt, and non-benefited position. This position pays $15.00 per hour and requires 15-19 hours of weekly availability. Business hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, with multiple after-hours and some required weekend events. This is an in-person position located in the USAC Advising Center in the Virginia Street Gym, on the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) campus.

General Responsibilities

  • General front office reception and administrative duties, including but not limited to greeting guests, answering phone calls, and data entry.
  • General study abroad pre-departure advisement and mentorship to UNR and USAC students.
  • Enthusiastically and accurately provide information about USAC and the study abroad process to students, families, staff, faculty, and the general public.
  • Be the primary or support staff for various on-campus outreach events, including classroom presentations, Nevada Bounds, New Student Orientation, NevadaFIT, tabling, and other study abroad promotional events.
  • Create and update various USAC presentations, marketing materials, flyers, and resources for UNR audiences.
  • Assist in general outreach on campus, including but not limited to participation in UNR and USAC events and distributing USAC marketing materials to various offices across UNR.
  • Editing, updating, and creating documents with strict attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Data entry to maintain accurate student records.
  • Other duties, projects, and tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication, organization, and customer service skills.
  • USAC Alumni
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Teams, Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Proven ability to problem solve.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Knowledge of, interest in, and appreciation for study abroad and international education.
  • Advanced level of written and oral communication skills; public speaking experience preferred.
  • Detail-oriented and well organized.
  • Be able to manage detailed projects with responsibility and autonomy.
  • Patience in helping students clarify needs and explore their interests, providing resources, making well-advised suggestions, and explaining complicated processes to help them make informed choices.

Benefit

USAC offers a Specialty Program Discount benefit for those employees who qualify. Employees can earn 25% or 50% off program fee benefit once they have reached either 500 and/or 1,000 hours of service.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

The duties of this job are mainly performed in a regular office environment with occasional small trips outdoors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk throughout the building and around campus. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
