Job Description

The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) in Reno, NV is recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate Palliative Care Physician. This role involves providing comprehensive palliative care services to veterans with serious, life-limiting illnesses, improving quality of life, and providing support to patients and their families.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive palliative care assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, including nurse practitioners, social workers, and other medical staff.
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient palliative care consultations.
  • Educate and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Engage in quality improvement projects and initiatives within the department.
  • Utilize advanced pain and symptom management techniques.
  • Support families and provide counseling as needed.
Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship: Required.
  • Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic or osteopathic medicine.
  • License: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
  • Residency: Completion of an accredited residency training program.
  • Board Certification: Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Hospice and Palliative Medicine is preferred.
  • Experience: Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality palliative care and work within an interdisciplinary team setting.
Additional Requirements:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to train and supervise house staff and trainees.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) and ability to document clinical care effectively.
