Position Overview
The Department of Political Science in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a 12-month, renewable non-tenure-track (NTT) Lecturer/Teaching Assistant Professor in American Politics or American Public Law who will coordinate its Collegiate Academy (High School Concurrent Enrollment) program.
The Concurrent Enrollment Coordinator position allows for a maximum of 50% of total effort to be devoted to administering semester-long high school concurrent enrollment courses with a maximum of 75% of total effort for yearlong concurrent enrollment courses.
Responsibilities- Coordinate the Collegiate Academy dual credit program, serving as front-line contact and instructor for participating high school teachers and liaising with UNR and K-12 administrators.
- Administer semester-long and yearlong concurrent enrollment courses, conducting in-person visits across Nevada and virtual meetings.
- Plan a summer workshop and a professional development day for participating high school teachers.
- Actively recruit Collegiate Academy high school students to the Political Science major at UNR.
- Teach courses:
Introduction to American Politics, a graduate seminar for high school teachers, and possible additional courses in American politics, public policy, and/or public law. - Fulfill a standard 4‑4 teaching load, a 1‑3 load (1 Fall/3 Spring) in Political Science as Coordinator, and a 3‑1 load dedicated to the Collegiate Academy workload, with the Collegiate Academy political science course normally taught in the Fall.
- Receive evaluations from the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs for Collegiate Academy duties and from the Political Science Department Chair for remaining duties.
- MA/MS in Political Science, Public Policy, or a related discipline, with an emphasis in American Politics.
- PhD in Political Science, Public Policy, or a related discipline, with an emphasis in American Politics.
- Demonstrated excellence or clear evidence of potential for excellence in teaching American Politics.
- Experience teaching or potential to teach introductory and upper-division courses in American politics at the university level.
- Knowledge of or experience teaching in U.S. high schools.
- PhD in Political Science or Public Policy.
- Administrative experience.
- Demonstrated excellence or clear evidence of potential for excellence in teaching public law or public policy.
- Travel throughout the state of Nevada in support of the Concurrent Enrollment Program.
