Job Description

Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) is seeking a full-time Instructor to oversee the Criminal Justice Department's Cohort-based Future Peace Officer (FPO) Academy. This position will provide leadership and direction for an innovative cohort-based learning program designed to recruit, train and educate highly qualified students who aspire to candidacy for careers in the law enforcement field. The program will prepare students for success in higher education and situate them to meet the physical and mental demands of eventual law enforcement training and employment, particularly Nevada's Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) academy curriculum for Category 1 certification.

This position will ensure TMCC's cohort-based program aligns with the Criminal Justice Department requirements and meets or exceeds preparatory Nevada POST training standards for select law enforcement training standards. The newly developed curriculum and student support will align with industry standards and ensure academic excellence, equipping graduates with the skills, discipline, and knowledge needed to excel in both their degree pathway and subsequent professional training.

This position is responsible for overseeing and managing the CRJ program and serving as liaison between the College, part-time faculty, and students enrolled in the Associates of Arts (AA) in Criminal Justice or the Associates of Applied Science (AAS) in Law Enforcement.

This position is grant funded and is contingent upon yearly funding through June 30, 2029.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field such as Business Administration, Business Continuity, Counter terrorism Studies, Emergency Management Administration,

Homeland Security Policy, Law Enforcement, Organizational Leadership, Political Science or Public Administration.

2. A minimum of 15 years of professional experience within the law enforcement field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Recent certification as a Category I or II Nevada Peace Officer, or equivalent training and certification from another state is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Master's degree or higher in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Education, Leadership, or Similar Disciplines.

2. Evidence must be submitted of an exemplary career in law enforcement including references and reputation of honorable service, as well as academy training officer, educator, rangemaster, instructor or related experience presenting subject-matter expertise.

3. Successful candidates must have a proven ability to manage law enforcement academic or training programs, with an emphasis on student support and career preparation.

4. Strong communication and partnership-building skills are required that include presentation skills, with an emphasis on collaborative public engagement. In addition, candidates must possess experience in building effective relationships with representatives from law enforcement agencies, higher education institutions, the private sector and community organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Manage all aspects of the Criminal Justice FPO Cohort Program, including scheduling, curriculum development, assessment, and daily operations.

* Ensure alignment between program content and the expectations of Nevada POST academies, law enforcement agencies, and transfer pathways for student career and academic goals.

* Work closely with TMCC Public Safety leadership to integrate the cohort program with existing fire and paramedic training programs.

* Recruit highly qualified instructors with extensive experience as law enforcement practitioners to ensure instruction aligns with contemporary best practices.

* Collaborate with the Criminal Justice Department Coordinator on embedded academic curriculum to ensure it aligns with degree pathways.
