Summary Description
Under supervision, the Para educator Aide II works in a special education classroom assisting teaching staff in a variety of instructional activities. Duties include providing individual or group assistance based on student or class functional living and academic skills, and/or behavioral support needed. The Aide may also provide attendant services to students with various intellectual and/or physical disabilities, and perform related work as required.

The Para educator Aide II assists teachers and special education students in general and/or special education classrooms across a range of programs such as CLS (Comprehensive Life Skills), EC (Early Childhood), MA (Multi‑Age), SIP (Social Intervention Programs), Strategies (Autism Spectrum Disorders), Social Resource, and Resource classrooms, including one‑on‑one assistance. In a Title I school, the Aide must be highly qualified. The Aide may act as a liaison between general education teachers, resource teachers, preview instructional information when possible, attend seminars and conferences, and support the implementation of IEPs.
ExemplaryDuties / Responsibilities
- Assist students with intellectual, physical, or behavioral disabilities in boarding/de‑boarding bus and accessing the school.
- Accompany students into general education classrooms and provide attendant services such as diapering, toileting, washing, and hygiene instruction.
- Perform delegated procedures including clean intermittent catheterization, emergency and first aid care.
- Move students weighing 50–80 lbs repeatedly, following safety procedures.
- Prepare and help feed students; support instruction in functional life skills.
- Use positive behavior management techniques, follow IEP behavior plans, and assist with lesson assignments.
- Maintain discipline and order in playground, lunchroom, library, and classroom settings.
- Accompany students on field trips, adjust wheelchairs, oxygen hoses, and other equipment.
- Communicate with special education teachers regarding concerns and observations.
- Assist with medication administration when trained, classroom equipment operation, and assistive technology device use.
- Record student progress toward goals, prepare graphs and charts, and modify general education curriculum as needed.
- Participate in district training programs and implement non‑violent behavioral intervention procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information and records.
EC – Early Childhood / Pre‑K: Provides services to 3‑5 year olds with disabilities, offering a developmentally appropriate curriculum covering literacy, math readiness, motor skills, self‑help, communication, and social skills.
EC SIP – Early Childhood / SIP: Focuses on social‑emotional development for students with behavioral challenges in a small group setting, integrating EC and SIP practices.
EC Strategies – Early Childhood / Strategies: Targets communication and social‑emotional skill development for students with autism in a small group setting, employing data collection and multiple modalities.
IEC – Early Childhood / Pre‑K Inclusion: Offers inclusive instruction with typically developing peers in a developmentally appropriate classroom.
IK – Integrated Kindergarten: Provides a co‑teaching model covering kindergarten standards within a special education setting.
CLS – Comprehensive Life
Skills:
Builds foundations for student success with critical social, emotional, and cognitive skills, aligning IEP goals with alternative curriculum.
SIP – Social Intervention Program: Provides academic and emotional/behavioral support for students with significant behavioral needs across various settings, aiming to replace problematic behaviors with positive ones.
Strategies: Intensive instruction for students on the autism spectrum covering language, routines, academic and social skills, using highly structured environments and data‑based decision making.
Social Resource: Specialized curriculum focusing on social thinking and coping skills through visual supports, modeling, role‑playing, and sensory‑considerate environments.
