The Department of Educator Preparation is seeking a nine‑month, tenure‑track Assistant Professor of Special Education to begin July 1, 2026. We are looking for a collaborative candidate who is committed to working with students, faculty, and community partners. The selected individual will be expected to conduct an active research and publication program and provide service to the college, university, and the profession.
This position cannot be performed remotely.
- Teach undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral‑level courses in special education, both in‑person and online.
- Advise and supervise graduate students, including doctoral students and dissertations.
- Supervise field experiences.
- Contribute to program development.
- Participate in AAQEP and other college performance assessment activities.
- Provide service and outreach at the department, college, university, and professional levels.
- An earned doctorate in special education or a closely related education field. ABD candidates will be considered with a completion date no later than August 2026.
- Expertise as a generalist in special education.
- At least three to five years teaching experience at the K‑12 level or an equivalent record of providing direct services in special education for students with mild‑to‑moderate disabilities.
- A record of, or potential for, national prominence through K‑12 special education research published in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Possess skill and experience in grant submission and/or acquisition.
- Have a focus on mild‑to‑moderate disabilities, particularly learning disabilities (e.g., dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, and/or executive functioning disorders) or related areas.
- Have experience in online and in‑person course development and delivery.
- Have experience supervising student field experiences in special education.
- Demonstrate an ability to work effectively with individuals with diverse abilities and their families.
