Summary Description

Under general supervision of the Principal and/or Athletic Director, the coach or advisor is responsible for leading students in a specified athletic or non‑athletic Extended Day Duty Activity, promoting sound coaching practices and a high standard of injury prevention and safety. The incumbent performs related duties as required.

• Develop rapport with students and provide sound leadership, serving as an example of good sportsmanship; enforce discipline fairly and positively according to prescribed procedures; and safeguard students’ health and welfare.
• Maintain cooperation with the Principal and/or Athletic Director and other Extended Day Duty personnel; communicate regularly to keep them informed of program activities, including trips and games.
• Develop a reliable system for accountability, upkeep and protection of equipment.
• Build positive public relations within the school and community.
• Attend contests and practice sessions.
• Compile and submit reports evaluating the activity, and recommend improvements.

• Education or experience that provides equivalent knowledge and skills required for coaching or advising the specific activity.
• High‑school diploma; preferred if the applicant is a teacher currently under contract with Washoe County School District.
• Experience coaching or advising in the relevant activity.
• Knowledge of the rules, theory and regulations related to the activity, including recent rule changes.
• Skill at: providing leadership and building rapport with students; designing organized practices and contests; communicating verbally and in writing; supervising students; teaching good sportsmanship.
• Valid Nevada Teaching Certificate desirable; CPR certification required for athletic activities.

The incumbent may be required to work weekends and at various times of the day.

Non‑contracted position; stipend based on the Extended Day Duty Scale negotiated with the Washoe County Teachers Association.
