Job Summary

The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) seeks to hire Graduate Consultants for its Writing & Speaking Center. Consultants support students in writing, reading, a presentation projects, and help develop confidence as communicators.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate online and in‑person consultations in a timely manner.
  • Use a collaborative, student‑centered approach during consultations.
  • Apply UWSC protocols and processes to guide work.
  • Value the development of communication skills for academic, personal, and professional interactions.
  • Complete required training: in‑person training prior to each semester start, online modules, and Friday afternoon workshops.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled as a Graduate Student at UNR.
  • Must be enrolled in at least three (3) graduate credits.
  • Must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Must possess strong writing and speaking skills within their discipline.
  • Must have effective interpersonal communication skills and basic computer familiarity.
  • Must possess the ability to work with students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Pursuing degrees in Engineering, Biology, Business, Economics, Anthropology, Geology, Community Health Sciences, or Nursing.
  • Preference for a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Schedule and Compensation

Expected hours: 6–15 per week. Compensation:
Grade Student Employee Level 2 at $19.50 per hour (exempt, part‑time). Full‑time equivalent: 37.5%.
