Position: Special Education Para educator Aide 3 1:1 HQ CLS (32.5 hrs/wk, 180 days)

PARA EDUCATOR AIDE III

High‑qualified status:
Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and meet one of the following: ≥48 semester hours at an accredited college/university, an associate's degree or higher, or a Para Pro Assessment score of at least 460.

Summary Description

Under supervision, works in a special education classroom assisting teaching staff in a variety of instructional activities. Provides individual or group assistance based on students’ functional living and academic skills and/or behavioral support needed. May also provide attendant services to students with various intellectual and/or physical disabilities. Performs related work as required.

Distinguishing Characteristics

The role assists teachers or special education students within general/special classrooms or specialized programs such as CLS (Comprehensive Life Skills), EC (Early Childhood), MA (Multi‑Age), SIP (Social Intervention Programs), Strategies (Autism Spectrum Disorders), Social Resource, or Resource classrooms, as well as one‑on‑one assistance. A Teacher Aide III working at a Title I school must be highly qualified.

Responsibilities
  • Assist students with intellectual, physical, or behavioral disabilities in boarding and de‑boarding buses and in navigating school.
  • Accompany students into general education classrooms, provide attendant services (e.g., diapering, toileting, washing faces).
  • Support instruction in health and hygiene habits and functional life skills.
  • Assist with lesson assignments, reinforce learning concepts, and maintain discipline on the playground, lunchroom, library, and classrooms.
  • Accompany students on field trips and adjust wheelchairs, oxygen hoses, and other equipment as needed.
  • Communicate with special education teachers about concerns and observations.
  • Assist with medication administration when trained and maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Support classroom equipment and assistive technology devices, record student progress, and develop instructional materials.
  • Assist in modifying the general education curriculum and participate in district training programs on non‑violent behavioral intervention procedures.
When Assigned To SPED Programs

Programs include Early Childhood (EC), Early Childhood SIP, Early Childhood Strategies, Integrated Kindergarten (IK), Comprehensive Life Skills (CLS), Social Intervention Program (SIP), Strategies for students on the autism spectrum, Social Resource, Hearing Impaired (AH), and Vision Impairment (VI).

Qualifications & Knowledge
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 48 semester hours of college credit, an associate's degree, or a Para Pro Assessment score ≥460.
  • Knowledge of educational principles, student behavior, positive behavior modification techniques, correct English usage, basic mathematics, office methods and procedures, and communication strategies.
  • Familiarity with teaching assistive technology, audio‑visual equipment, and behavior analysis.
  • Capacity to lift students weighing 50–80 pounds and follow safety procedures.
  • Possession of CPI Certification.
