Job DescriptionThe Teacher Assistant assists the Lead Teacher in creating a safe, clean, and healthy environment, supporting individual growth socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically. The role builds connections between home and school through regular communication with families and contributes to a friendly, respectful, and honest work environment.
Classroom Responsibilities- Assist with implementing developmentally appropriate practices, Environmental Rating Scales, and Blue Kangaroo’s philosophy.
- Collaborate with Lead Teacher to create a “learning through play” environment with hands‑on experiences.
- Complete cleaning lists to maintain a welcoming, clean, and safe setting.
- Help develop classroom layout to encourage learning, improve engagement, and support positive behaviors.
- Submit maintenance or repair requests in writing to the front office.
- Be actively engaged with children, converse at eye level, maintain a friendly and warm demeanor, use appropriate voice and tone, and encourage independence and self‑help skills.
- Support child outcomes by working with teachers and families.
- Ensure licensing requirements set by Washoe County Dept. of Social Services, Washoe County Health Dept., and the Fire Dept. are met in classroom and playground.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to parent questions or concerns, involving Lead Teacher or Front Office Management as needed.
- Actively participate in mandatory staff meetings.
- Arrive to work on time and contact the center when delayed.
- Maintain reliable attendance, providing ample notice for time off.
- Communicate directly and avoid gossip.
- Be flexible with work schedule to meet the center’s needs.
- Demonstrate honesty, integrity, commitment, and confidentiality.
- Take initiative in problem solving and remain open to new ideas.
Base pay starts at $16.00 per hour, with potential for higher compensation based on experience and educational background. Shifts run Monday through Friday from 9:45 am to 6:15 pm.
