Job Description
Student Library Assistant position at the Savitt Medical Library, University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine. Candidates will work during Summer
2026 and continue through the school year. The role involves assisting medical students, faculty, and the public while maintaining a professional demeanor.
- Staff the circulation desk during open hours
- Answer telephones and transfer calls as needed
- Answer patron questions using all available resources
- Search the library catalog using Primo and Alma
- Manage study room reservations and enter them in Lib Cal
- Process holds, check items in/out, and reshelve materials
- Collect fines, tender sales, and sign community borrowers up for library cards
- Troubleshoot printing issues, track library statistics
- Open and close the library
- Perform other tasks as assigned
- Currently enrolled as a student at University of Nevada, Reno
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Outlook and Word
- Familiar with operating various office equipment (printers, scanners, multi‑line phones)
- Self‑starter, punctual, detail‑oriented, organized
- Effective communication by phone, email, and in person
- Prior experience working with the public in a customer service capacity
- Experience with inventory or customer account management software
- Experience using a Point of Sale (POS) system
- Availability to work weekends, evenings, and breaks
Expected hours: 10–15 hours per week during the semester, up to 40 hours per week during school breaks. Library hours vary by semester.
