Graduate Resident Director
The Graduate Resident Director is an integral part of the Department of Residential Life, Housing and Food Services, supporting residence hall operations and student engagement.
Responsibilities- Supervise or assist with supervision of 4-16 paraprofessionals
- Assist with the recruitment, selection, and training of student staff
- Participate in on‑call duty rotation, providing 24‑hour crisis response
- Coordinate and facilitate the residential curriculum
- Advise the leadership council
- Promote restorative justice through educational conversations
- Assist with or coordinate front desk operations
- Assist with or coordinate housing operations, including follow‑up on maintenance needs, key control, and room condition reports
- Assist with opening, closing, and finals‑week activities
- Maintain availability and visibility during non‑business hours for nighttime, weekend, and holiday programming and events
- Perform various administrative tasks needed for operating a residence hall
- Participate in at least one additional committee or departmental area (e.g., Student Staff Recruitment & Selection Committee, Student Staff Training & Development Committee, Diversity & Social Justice Committee)
- Eligible for graduate assistantship: admitted to an aid‑eligible, degree‑granting program at UNR and in good academic standing (self‑supported programs do not qualify)
- Maintain overall graduate GPA of at least 3.00
- Continuously enrolled in at least 6 graduate‑level credits throughout the assistantship
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in MS Excel and MS Word
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi‑task
- Ability to work in a team environment and independently as needed
- Ability to travel or, if expected to drive a state vehicle, must possess a Nevada State Driver’s License or be able to obtain one within the required time period
- Ability to fulfill physical activity requirements commensurate with duties (e.g., walk up multiple flights of stairs in case of emergency, lift 25 pounds, etc.)
- Training, education, supervision, leadership experience, or experience in two of the following areas:
- • Community event planning
- • Assessment of student development theory
- • Residential community management
- • Crisis management
- • General business/administrative functions
- 11‑month renewable position (potential option to work summers under a separate agreement as needed)
- Allotted stipend, dependent on degree track and program
- Allotted meal plan while classes are in session
- Medical insurance coverage
- In‑state tuition paid for up to 10 credits per semester (10 credits Fall, 10 credits Spring)
- Out‑of‑state students receive a waiver of the difference between out‑of‑state tuition and in‑state tuition for up to four semesters (Master’s) and six semesters (Doctoral)
- Student responsibilities for all applicable graduate student fees
- Summer tuition coverage may be available
- Professional development funds for conference attendance may also be available
- Average 30 hours per week during an 11‑month contract typically beginning in July and ending in May
- May be required to work during non‑business hours such as nights, weekends, and some holidays to complete programming, events, and activities
