Position: Special Education Resource Teacher Full-time Standard

Summary Description

Under the general supervision of an administrator, a special education teacher will be assigned a caseload and will implement school board policy regarding the educational curriculum of a particular instructional division and/or instructional unit.

Under the general supervision of an administrator, a special education teacher will be assigned a caseload and will implement school board policy regarding the educational curriculum of a particular instructional division and/or instructional unit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Planning and Preparation
  • Administer appropriate district curriculum aligned with Common Core State Standards and consistent with IEP instructions.
  • Design and implement components of an effective lesson and student assessments aligned with Common Core State Standards.
  • Design coherent, differentiated instruction and assessments aligned with Common Core State Standards appropriate to the instructional level.
  • Provide appropriate instructions, modifications, adaptations, and implement Individual Education Plans (IEP) in a systematic, meaningful manner.
  • Analyze student progress and ensure assessment regulations and guidelines are followed at all times.
  • Demonstrate mastery of content and pedagogy, knowledge of students and resources, typical developmental patterns, and characteristics of students with disabilities.
  • Set instructional outcomes for diverse learners.
Classroom Environment
  • Create an environment of respect and rapport while fostering positive learning conditions.
  • Maintain a positive, orderly, safe, accessible, and academically focused learning environment rich in resources.
  • Manage classroom procedures and student behavior.
  • Demonstrate cultural competency.
Instruction
  • Communicate learning expectations to students.
  • Engage students in learning.
  • Utilize discussion and questioning techniques.
  • Embed assessment throughout instruction.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness.
  • Show familiarity with Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support.
  • Apply strategies and accommodations to help students with disabilities access the curriculum.
  • Coordinate effectively with other service staff in providing student instruction.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate records and IEPs as mandated by state and federal guidelines within established timelines.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.
  • Support, communicate, and collaborate with administrators, staff, community members, following WCSD procedures.
  • Promote meaningful participation of parents in the IEP process.
  • Reflect on teaching practices.
  • Participate in a professional community.
  • Carry out other job‑related duties assigned.
  • Work as part of an education/assessment team responsible for identifying, developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating individual objectives for assigned students.

Special education teachers may be assigned as Resource teachers or to specialized programs that provide supports for students with special needs. In specialized program assignments, all of the above responsibilities apply along with program‑specific duties.

When Assigned To Adaptive Physical Education

Demonstrate knowledge of strategies and accommodations to assist students with disabilities in Physical Education settings; design coherent, differentiated instruction and assessments aligned with State Standards; maintain accurate Service Delivery Logs.

Additional Qualifications for Picollo
  • This position will teach pool classes.
  • Applicant must be Red Cross Lifeguard certified or equivalent by start date.
  • Applicant must be CPR certified by start date.
  • Applicant must have Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator or equivalent certification by start date.
Early Childhood (EC) and Related Programs Early Childhood Special Education Program (EC SIP)

The teacher provides instruction in a curriculum that addresses literacy, math readiness, motor skills, self‑help, communication, and social skills for 3‑ to 5‑year‑old students. The program focuses on social‑emotional development and serves students with behavioral challenges in a small‑group setting.
