Elementary School Principal
Under general direction, serves as the instructional leader and chief administrative officer of an elementary school. Incumbent performs related work as required.
Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and maintain the vision and mission statement of the school; engage students, staff, parents, community, and stakeholders.
- Analyze student achievement results, set goals, and implement strategies to improve academic performance.
- Lead and coordinate staff, parents, students, and community in the accomplishment of the school's mission.
- Apply effective human relations skills, delegate responsibility, and provide support and follow‑up.
- Coordinate available human, material, and financial resources to achieve mission and goals.
- Implement constructive change and foster a collaborative school culture.
- Communicate effectively with all constituencies; articulate beliefs and decisions persuasively.
- Promote nonverbal communication, personal image, and positive image of the school.
- Establish consensus building processes; involve staff, parents, and students in decision making.
- Demonstrate knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment; support co‑curriculum activities.
- Assess teaching methods, ensure appropriate variety, and promote effective classroom management.
- Assist teachers to apply teaching styles that match diverse learning styles.
- Encourage high expectations for students, staff, and self; foster personal goal setting.
- Develop professional growth plans and support staff professional development.
- Analyze student performance, staff performance, and overall instructional program effectiveness.
- Lead Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and apply understanding of MTSS, PBIS, and SEL.
- Recruit, select, assign, and organize staff to support strategic plan.
- Maintain a safe, orderly climate; manage operation and maintenance of the physical plant.
- Understand school district budget; involve staff in budgetary planning aligned with mission.
- Comply with laws, regulations of the State of Nevada, district, and Nevada Department of Education.
- Master’s Degree in School Administration or related field.
- Minimum of two (2) completed years of leadership at the school site level as an assistant principal or principal, preferably at the elementary level; or related experience as specified.
- Five (5) completed years of certified teaching experience.
- Five (5) years of satisfactory summative evaluations.
- Knowledge of modern instructional techniques, curricular concepts, district curriculum, school administration principles, federal, state, and local laws, human resources development, school law, conflict resolution, public relations, and effective management.
- Skill in planning, organizing, assigning, coordinating activities of professional and support staff; presenting ideas effectively; dealing constructively with conflict; team building; establishing working relationships.
- Licensing:
Nevada School Administrator Endorsement must be obtained prior to placement.
The work is sedentary with occasional walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, and driving. No special physical demands are required.
Work EnvironmentThe work environment involves routine office and school settings requiring normal safety precautions with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations, and traffic safety. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
SalaryGrade 31 – Salary range starts at $112,951.
