Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Student Worker
- Peer Academic Success Coach for the Academic Success Center (ASC). The mission of the ASC is to provide academic guidance through free peer‑to‑peer support via tutoring, embedded course support, peer academic success coaching, and study/test‑taking strategies for a variety of subject areas.
Peer Academic Success Coaches serve students in need of support – outside of course content – to create academic goals, build action plans, and develop strength‑based skills and habits in order to support persistence and retention.
Academic Coaching provides individualized support to help students develop self‑regulation and effective learning and course skills based on their needs, interests, and goals.
Peer Academic Coach will guide students to:
- Assess and identify individual student strengths and areas for growth that support their academic success
- Set clear SMART Goals that outline actionable and realistic steps towards goal completion
- Identify effective learning tools and campus resources to support skill development, goal completion, or simply navigating college life
- Check‑in and reflect on goal progress, challenges and successes, and attend campus activities or events
- Develop teamwork and planning skills through facilitating coaching sessions
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized academic success coaching sessions to students to assess their performance and develop goal‑oriented action plans
- Assist students to develop and implement learning strategies and study skills specific to individual needs
- Provide weekly outreach, check‑ins, and relevant communication to address student questions, concerns, and needs
- Document student interactions and attendance through tracking software
- Support and advocate for the interest, needs, and rights for students at Nevada State in order to become academically successful
- Coordinate with program staff and Nevada State departments to improve student outcomes
- Assist with marketing and advertising sessions to the campus community
- Assist with front desk coverage and customer service (answering phones, scheduling appointments, referrals, etc.)
- Participate in pre‑semester training, ongoing training, and staff meetings (biweekly and monthly meetings)
Minimum Qualifications:
- Have earned a GPA of 3.0 or better over the last 2 semesters OR a cumulative GPA of 3.0 at Nevada State
- Must be enrolled as a degree‑seeking student with a minimum of 6 credits while holding the position
- Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment‑related visas)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Complete at least 1 year (2 semesters) at Nevada State
- Ability to present oneself professionally and interact with others in a courteous and respectful manner
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions, learn and apply procedures and regulations
- Ability to work and manage multiple duties, projects, and assignments while meeting established deadlines
- Ability to work in a high‑paced, noisy environment
Work Hours: Student employees should expect to work 10–19.5 hours per week depending on student traffic and demand; flexible scheduling. Students can work up to 19.5 hours per week.
Hourly Rate: $14.00 per hour.
