PARADEUCATOR AIDE III

High‑Qualified Status (HQ):
Individuals selected for this position must be highly qualified. Applicants must possess a high school diploma or recognized equivalent and have completed one of the following: at least 48 semester hours at an accredited college or university; an associate’s degree or higher; or a score of at least 460 on the Para Pro Assessment administered by ETS.

Under supervision, works in a special education classroom and assists teaching staff in a variety of instructional activities. The aide may provide individual or group assistance to students based on functional living, academic, or behavioral needs and may also provide attendant services to students with intellectual or physical disabilities.

Works in specialized programs such as CLS (Comprehensive Life Skills), EC (Early Childhood), MA (Multi‑Age), SIP (Social Intervention Programs), STRAT (Autism Spectrum Disorders), Social Resource, and other resource classrooms. Teachers Aide III must coordinate with general education and resource teachers and may attend professional development seminars.

• Assist students with intellectual, physical or behavioral disabilities with boarding, de‑boarding buses, moving between classroom and school spaces, and accompaniment to general education classes.
• Provide attendant services including diapering, toileting, washing, hygiene, and feeding as needed.
• Support instruction of health and hygiene habits and perform delegated procedures such as clean intermittent catheterization and first‑aid care.
• Move students weighing 50–80 pounds daily and repetitively while following safety procedures.
• Prepare and assist with meals, functional life‑skills instruction, and modification of general education curriculum as appropriate.
• Follow behavior plans, apply positive behavior management techniques, and assist with lesson assignments.
• Maintain discipline and order in playground, lunchroom, library, and classroom; accompany students on field trips.
• Adjust wheelchairs, oxygen hoses and other equipment; communicate concerns to special education teachers.
• Assist with medication administration when trained, operation of classroom equipment, and assistive technology devices.
• Record student progress, develop instructional materials, prepare graphs and charts, and maintain confidentiality of student records.
• Participate in district training programs and implement non‑violent behavioral intervention procedures as requested.

Assist students in various specialized programs:

• EC – Early Childhood/Pre‑K:
  Provide developmentally appropriate instruction for 3–5 year olds with disabilities.
• EC SIP

  Support social‑emotional development for children with behavioral challenges in a small‑group setting.
• EC STRAT
  :
  Focus on communication and social‑emotional skills for students with autism, using small‑group instruction.
• IEC – Inclusion
  :
  Provide services to preschoolers in a classroom with typically developing peers.
• IK – Integrated Kindergarten
  :
  Co‑teach kindergarten with a focus on literacy, math, and developmental skills.
• CLS – Comprehensive Life Skills
  :
  Assist students with cognitive disabilities in accessing an alternative curriculum aligned with state standards.
• SIP – Social Intervention Program
  :
  Offer academic and behavioral support within the regular school setting and aim to increase academic progress.
