Position Title

Hourly Youth City Program Instructor III

Salt Lake City is looking for Hourly Youth City Instructor III’s to supervise youthand teensandimplement the Youth City after school and summer program goals.

Duties include, but not limited to teaching in an out-of-school time setting, program implementation,communication with program staff, parents and city leadership, data collection, and developing effective strategies to meet and exceed all organizational goals and objectives.

Afternoon and evenings hours are required based on program needs. Youth City Instructor  III will provide site-based leadership supportin absence ofSr. Community Programs Manager, support the program in an administrative and programmatic role,and build capacity of Youth and Family Division.

We are hiring staff to work at all K-8 Youth City locations. Teams of Instructors report to a full-time Senior Community Programs Manager who oversees each location.

• Safely transport youth to various program activities within the City.
• Provide supervision to youth engaged in program activities.
• Provide temporary site supervision when Sr. Manager is out of office.
• Develop and plan activities for program youth and teen participants based on learning objectives, grant goals, and division-wide initiatives.
• Complete weekly lesson plans based on established program goals and assist leadership in developing new curriculum programs.
• Teach and facilitate group activities for youth. Participate in program activities and model youth support strategies for the team.
• Follow program procedures to safeguard the health, safety, and well-being of participants.
• Prep, clean, and maintain the facility daily to provide a safe/healthy environment for program participants
• Assist in providing daily snacks and grant reporting.
• Assist with program’s grant-required assessments to ensure program quality metrics are met.
• Maintain accurate tracking and documentation as required by the program.
• Ensure compliance with all grant requirements, including tracking and reporting.
• Attend mandatory staff meetings and staff training as scheduled.
• Assist in facilitating, developing, and executing Youth City staff training and professional development.
• Participate in one-on-one professional development meetings with Senior Community Programs Managers.
• Participate in Youth City Leadership Academy professional development training courses.
• Maintains and inspects city vehicles according to required pre-trip inspections.
• Reports daily to the Senior Community Programs Manager.
• Performs all other duties as requested.

• High School graduate or equivalent and at least 21 years of age.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 3 months of employment.
• Experience working with school-age youth or teens from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
• Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally and demonstrate public presentation skills.
• Ability to demonstrate group management skills and techniques to resolve and de-escalate conflict situations.
• Ability to work independently as well as under supervision.
• Ability to deal with both youth and adults in a non-judgmental atmosphere.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate with individuals from different social and ethnic backgrounds.
• Willingness to learn new skills and mentor and support Level I and II Instructors.

• Bilingual preferred.

• Moderate physical activity. Required to push, pull, or lift medium weights. Uncomfortable working positions such as stooping, crouching, and bending. May have a few disagreeable elements such as exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
• Exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.
• Will be required to work on evenings and weekends.
