Hourly Youth City Program Instructor II
Job DescriptionSalt Lake City is looking for Hourly Youth City Program Instructor's to provide supervision for elementary and middle school aged school-aged youth and the implementation of Youth City program goals.
This position will support our Youth City After school Program which will operate through the school year. Once hired staff may select to continue employment for the 2027 Youth City summer program.
About the PositionThis role requires teaching in an out-of-school-time setting, program implementation, communication with program staff, data collection and developing strategies to meet and exceed all organizational goals and objectives.
The ideal candidate will have a High School graduate or equivalent and be at least 21 years of age. Experience working with school-aged children, middle school age teens, and/or other related experience is preferred.
About the TeamWe are hiring staff to work at all Youth City locations. Teams of Instructors report to a full-time Senior Community Programs Manager who oversees each location.
Work ScheduleThis position will work 25 hours a week. During the school year, the work hours are Monday – Thursday from 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Friday from Noon – 6:00 p.m. During the Summer Program, this position will work 5 hour blocks Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m.
- 1:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m.
- 6:00 p.m. depending on program necessity.
$19.00/hr.
Key Responsibilities- Safely transports youth to various program activities within the City.
- Provide supervision to youth engaged in program activities.
- Maintain attendance records as required by program.
- Assist with program’s grant required assessments to ensure program quality metrics are met.
- Develop and plan weekly activities based on learning objectives as outlined by Youth City programs. Teach group activities to youth. Participate in all activities with children.
- Follow program procedures to safeguard health, safety, and well-being of participants.
- Prepare, clean up, and maintain facility daily.
- Assist in providing daily snacks.
- Attend weekly staff meetings and training sessions as scheduled. Participate in one-on-one professional development meetings with Senior Community Program Managers. Provide a safe/healthy environment for program participants. Maintains and inspects city vehicles according to required pre-trip inspections. Perform all other duties requested.
- Report daily to Senior Community Programs Manager.
- High School graduate or equivalent and at least 21 years of age.
- Experience in working with school-aged children, middle school youth, and/or other related experience.
- Possession of valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 3 months of employment.
- Ability to demonstrate group management skills and techniques.
- Ability to work with a diverse population – including both youth and adults.
- Ability to resolve conflict situations.
- Ability to deal with both youth and adults in a non-judgmental atmosphere.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate with individuals from different social and ethnic backgrounds.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Moderate physical activity. Required to push, pull, or lift medium weights. Uncomfortable working positions such as stooping, crouching, and bending. May have a few disagreeable elements such as exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
- Exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.
- Will be required to work on evenings and weekends.
