career & technical education (cte) coordinator summary description

under direction of the cte director, serves as an instructional leader and assistant administrative officer for cte programs and the district's career academies. The cte coordinator is responsible for progress toward achieving the department's mission, goals, and plans with respect to administrating high-quality cte programs.

essential duties and responsibilities department management
  • assumes responsibilities of the director when needed or when delegated by the director; oversees cte outcomes and performance indicators;
  • manages advisory committees and community collaborations that impact cte;
  • monitors accessibility issues related to cte policies, processes and procedures;
  • provides guidance and collaboration for school sites and district departments;
  • engages with related stakeholders to ensure alignment with regional, state-wide and national trends;
  • identifies areas of focus for continued department growth and innovation.
curriculum
  • provides guidance for development and maintenance of cte course / program offerings, course guides, and master scheduling;
  • oversees program of study implementation, audits, testing, and industry certification;
  • plans and implements professional development opportunities to ensure rigorous implementation of state standards and district consistency across programs;
  • manages internship/work experience, advanced study, and cte dual credit opportunities at all school sites;
  • manages longitudinal data-gathering through such efforts as walk-throughs, assessment results, etc.;
  • attends district meetings related to curriculum, diploma management, career counseling, etc.
staffing
  • analyzes certified staff allocations by school and discipline;
  • recruits and retains cte teachers, providing input for continuous improvement;
  • collaborates with schools to provide qualified coverage for long‑term cte teacher absences as needed;
  • recruits and retains pre‑service and new teachers, supporting processes associated with licensing and endorsement requirements, mentoring, administrative support at school sites, and other strategies for teacher success;
  • supervises, trains and/or oversees staff who supervise ctso and other approved co‑curricular activities.
students
  • supports recruitment of students into cte programs and career academies;
  • ensures the maintenance of accurate cte programs of study, eligibility, and adequate progress toward the nevada skills certificate and cte diploma endorsement including review of transcripts, attendance, discipline records;
  • supports cte teachers/counselors and other staff to develop systemic interventions for students struggling with cte program completion.
families and community
  • identifies new and unique opportunities to engage and educate all stakeholders about the value of cte;
  • plans and manages existing and new outreach and education events;
  • supports career exploration efforts at school and district sites (elementary through high school and non‑school departments); serves on committees related to cte programming, economic development, and postsecondary transition.
recordkeeping and reports
  • produces various district, state and federal data and reports as required (examples include enrollment, application, attendance (absence and tardiness), achievement, assessment);
  • participates in grant development;
  • oversees implementation and outcomes of grant, department and district objectives;
  • supervises decision‑making regarding budget management, inventory and equipment, travel, facility improvements, and other department needs;
  • collaborates with other district departments on the development of guidelines for such things as internships, travel, professional development, safety protocols, etc.;
  • ensures accurate procedures are followed for all facets of cte work.
cte facilities and services
  • oversees facility use contracts and memorandums of understanding;
  • community internship agreements;
  • special service contracts;
  • bi‑annual inventory and site safety inspections;
  • adherence to office of civil rights and osha workplace standards;
  • other duties as assigned.
