Job Description
New Student Initiatives is hiring a team of New Student Leaders for the 2026-27 Academic Year which includes Opening Weekend, Wolf Pack Welcome Events, Family Weekend, Spring Orientation, collaborative events with campus partners, campus events, and creating content for the NSI Social Media. As a Leader, you play an indispensable role welcoming new students, their families, and guests to the University as well as helping them find their sense of belonging on campus.
New Student Leaders (NSL) provide a positive, memorable, and fun atmosphere. We want the NSL team to be dedicated to getting new students engaged with events and resources available on campus. As a New Student Leader, you will be responsible for the creation and development of events for first year students. This may include event planning, design, logistics, and day of support for in-person events.
Other duties may include creating engaging social media content, teaming with campus partners for meet-ups, socials, and other activities.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate and assist with campus partners and campus events
- Create engaging content for the NSI social media
- Assist with event planning, design, logistics, and day of support for in-person events
- Will attend a minimum of two New Student Initiative events each month
- Must be able to help with Spring Orientation in January, and Orientation Leader Recruitment for next summer
- Gain leadership, development, and event management training
Required Qualifications
- Candidate must attend New Student Initiative events
- Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno in good academic standing
- Candidate must have attended one full Fall or Spring semester at the University of Nevada, Reno
- Candidate excels at working in a team environment under pressure
- Candidate is excited to work on campus to create events welcoming new students and families to campus
- Candidate is a positive role model for new students and an enthusiastic ambassador for the University
Preferred Qualifications
- Candidate must have strong communication skills
- Candidate has knowledge of photography, marketing, and social media platforms
- Candidate possesses strong organizational skills
Schedule
- Candidate must be able to work between 5-10 hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters (excluding Fall, Winter, and Spring Break)
- Candidate will work from August-May during the Fall & Spring semesters
- Some evening and weekend work may be necessary
Compensation Grade
Student Employee Level 1
$13/hour
The Student Services Division requires its undergraduate student employees to be enrolled in 15 credits or more each semester.
The yearly timeline for students to fulfill this requirement is Fall through Summer (i.e.students should have an overall total of at least 30 credits by the end of Summer each academic year). Students may be enrolled in fewer than 15 credits if they are in their last semester before graduation. Students are also required tobe in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.75.
Finally, students must have attended one full Fall or Spring Semester at the universityin order toapply.
Schedules are subject to change based on organizational needs.
