The Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a Lecturer or Teaching Assistant Professor to begin July 1, 2027. This is a teaching-focused position with a 4-4 teaching load, with service and professional development responsibilities and no research obligations. We seek a candidate with broad teaching interests to contribute primarily to our on-ground and online undergraduate programs.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and service.

Required Qualifications:

  • Lecturer - M.A. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related field.
  • Candidates possessing a J.D. will also be considered.
  • Teaching Assistant Professor - PhD. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.A. or Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related field.
  • Evidence of prior teaching experience and the ability to teach Criminal Law, Criminal Justice Policy, and other core courses across the Criminal Justice curriculum.

Compensation Grade/Rank:

Lecturer/Teaching Assistant Professor (9-month, B-contract).

Salary is competitive with a hiring range of $63,000-$64,500 and commensurate with related education and experience.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees:

The University is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Dependents of faculty have unlimited credits, but in order to be eligible children must be unmarried and under the age of 24 and must receive at least 50% of their financial support from the employee and/or employee's spouse or domestic partner.

Department Information:

The UNR Department of Criminal Justice is an interdisciplinary department of 13 full-time faculty and several part-time faculty with experience in the field. We offer a B.A in Criminal Justice, both on-ground and online, M.A. in Criminal Justice, M.A. in Justice Management, and a Certificate in Forensics Studies. Faculty also contribute to the interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Social Psychology and Ph.D. program in Judicial Studies.
