Compensation: $20.50 per hour.
At Patagonia, compensation is set using the best available market data for the job at the required location. Patagonia’s mission and values are put into practice every day throughout our child development centers. Substitute teachers provide coverage for regular classroom teachers in the infant/toddler and preschool classrooms when they are absent. The work hours of the substitute position fluctuate significantly, and qualified candidates must have the flexibility to be scheduled on an as‑needed basis.
WhatYou’ll Do
Responsibilities of this role will include, but not be limited to the following:
- Physical caregiving and providing age‑appropriate, individualized curriculum, while facilitating supportive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Classroom management and practices: ensuring visual supervision and child safety at all times; forming respectful relationships with parents, children, and co‑teachers; aiding teaching teams to maintain structured routines for meals, rest, and flexible daily schedules; becoming familiar with classroom routines, expectations, and teaching styles of each classroom.
- Communication skills: building meaningful relationships, fostering a safe and inclusive environment for children, parents, and teachers; collaborating with administration, classroom managers, primary teachers, and classroom teachers; communicating with children using developmentally appropriate language; treating each child with dignity and respect; guiding children to become responsible, integral members of the group and community.
- Physical requirements:
observe and respond to children’s needs, emergencies or conflicts; kneel or sit on the floor to engage with students; respond to a child’s first aid needs (e.g., cuts, bruises, bodily fluids); lift or move 1–35 lbs and occasionally >35 lbs as needed.
- High school graduate.

- Excellent customer service skills in person, via email, and on the phone.
- Comfortable with a team‑based work structure and able to demonstrate flexibility on the job.
- Demonstrates initiative, conscientiousness, and provides complete follow‑through on areas of responsibility.
- Expert in your classroom age‑group and early childhood best practices.
- Dedicated to lifelong learning and the betterment of early childhood education.
- At least 150 hours working or volunteering with children within the last 6 months.
- Two years’ experience working with young children (0‑5 years).
- Fifteen (15) units in Early Childhood
Education:
Growth and Development, Child‑Family & Community, Administration in ECE, and two Program/Curriculum courses, plus three (3) infant/toddler units. - If working in a school‑age classroom, at least three (3) school‑age units.
- Working knowledge of personal computers (Word, Excel, Microsoft Teams, Outlook).
- Successful completion of a criminal background check and clearance for state childcare licensing (Sheriff’s Card in NV).
- AA or BA in ECE or a related field.
- Understanding of Family Business, Developmentally Appropriate Practice, Learning Stories, Pyramid Model, Outdoor Classroom, Anti‑Bias Education, Resources for Infant Educators, and Educa.
- Responsible for creating a safe, professional work environment.
- Contributing to a positive, inclusive workplace through cooperative and professional interactions with co‑workers, customers, and vendors.
