Job DescriptionThe Department of English at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for an Assistant Professor of U.S. literature from the nineteenth century with a desired secondary area in Queer Theory to begin on July 1, 2027. We welcome applications from candidates specializing in any literary genre, but the candidate should be comfortable teaching and advising students on texts from the nineteenth century into the twentieth century.
The candidate should have a robust research agenda and teaching experience in U.S. literature of the period as well as demonstrated teaching experience with queer theory. Candidates possessing or expecting PhDs in English Literature or related fields no later than July 1, 2027, are invited to apply. The faculty member who joins the department can expect to contribute to the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs and will participate in the university’s Core Humanities Program housed within the College of Liberal Arts.
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of research and contribute to the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs.
An active and promising research agenda is expected, as are experience and promise as an excellent teacher. The PhD must be completed no later than July 1, 2027. Successful candidates must be able to teach courses and pursue a research agenda in 19th Century U.S. Literature and demonstrate expertise in Queer Theory. The successful candidate must demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching, research, and service.
CompensationGrade, Assistant Professor, 9-month, B Contract. Salary is competitive with a range of $68,000 to $73,000 and commensurate with related education and experience.
