Job Description & How to Apply Below

Sunstone is a growing environmental consulting firm based in Reno, Nevada. We work on meaningful mining projects across the Western U.S. with a team that’s collaborative, experienced, and genuinely enjoys what we do. We trust our people to get the work done, and we want them to have a life outside of it. If you’re looking for a place where you can take real ownership and be part of building something lasting, we’d like to hear from you.

What

You’ll Do

Asset Advancement Lead assets from early‑stage exploration and baseline programs through PEA, PFS, and FS‑level development. Align technical, environmental, permitting, and engineering work streams with defined project milestones.

Consultant & Contractor Oversight Manage multidisciplinary teams spanning geology, hydrogeology, geotechnical, mining engineering, environmental, and infrastructure disciplines. Review scopes, work plans, and technical deliverables for completeness, defensibility, and alignment with study objectives. Identify and mitigate scope, cost, and schedule risks early.

Schedule & Cost Control Develop and maintain integrated schedules and cost tracking systems. Monitor performance against baseline budgets and timelines. Prepare structured progress reporting and forward‑looking forecasts to support decision‑making.

Field & Program Coordination Provide high‑level oversight of drilling, environmental, geotechnical, hydrologic, and infrastructure programs. Participate in site visits, coordination meetings, and QA/QC reviews as required.

Permitting & Regulatory Integration Ensure permitting pathways remain aligned with engineering and study progression. Coordinate with federal and state agencies across the Western U.S. as needed.

Executive & Stakeholder Interface Present project status, risks, and key decision points to executive teams and investors. Support funding gates and development milestones with clear, defensible reporting.

This is the role for you if:
  • You’ve managed multidisciplinary teams (geo, hydro, enviro, engineering) and know how to keep everyone aligned without micromanaging
  • You understand what it takes to produce finance‑ready, defensible study outcomes
  • You’re organized, decisive, and know how to translate technical complexity into something an executive or investor can actually use
  • You’ve spent time in the Western U.S. mining landscape and know how federal and state permitting works in practice
  • You’re comfortable operating independently and don’t need hand‑holding to drive execution
What Makes This Role Different

Ownership without layers. You’ll operate with real responsibility across active development programs, not buried inside a large corporate hierarchy. Your decisions directly influence study outcomes and execution momentum.

Integrated technical exposure. You’ll work across geology, engineering, hydro, environmental, and permitting disciplines rather than sitting in a single functional silo.

Development‑stage impact. This role bridges exploration and advanced studies, ensuring work programmes translate into defensible, finance‑ready outcomes.

Autonomy with accountability. We trust experienced professionals to drive execution. Clear expectations, real trust, no micromanagement.

Performance‑driven environment. Strong execution, sound judgment, and disciplined project management are recognised and compensated accordingly.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or related discipline
  • 8+ years in mining project development, engineering consulting, or owner’s team roles
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or overseeing PFS and FS‑level studies
  • Working knowledge of open pit and/or underground mining methods
  • Familiarity with hydrogeologic, geotechnical, environmental, and infrastructure components of study development
  • Western U.S. project experience strongly preferred
  • Strong communicator, written and verbal, with the ability to translate technical complexity into clear executive summaries
What We Offer
  • Company‑paid medical, dental, and vision
  • 401(k) with 4% company match
  • Flexible PTO structured around delivering results, not logging hours
  • A lean, high‑trust team that rewards performance over politics
  • A role that grows with you, we’re building something here and the right person will have a hand in shaping it
