Job Overview

Sr. Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Project Engineer ensures that the highest quality of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing construction work is in accordance with project‑specific cost and schedule requirements. The Sr. M&E Project Engineer serves as the onsite liaison between the client, architect, Project Manager, and subcontractors to make sure a construction project proceeds safely, accurately, and smoothly. The Sr. M&E Project Engineer has a delegated responsibility for those elements of a construction project that bring it from plans to closeout.

These elements include, but are not limited to, document control, submittal management, RFI management, procurement, change order management, contracts administration, issue resolution, safety auditing, and support of field coordination.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as onsite liaison between client, architect, Project Manager, and subcontractors.
  • Oversee elements that bring the project from plans to closeout: document control, submittal management, RFI management, procurement, change order management, contracts administration, issue resolution, safety auditing, and support of field coordination.
  • Proactively manage expectations and prevent conflicts among internal and external parties.
  • Oversee operating processes: be detail‑oriented, innovative, creative, proactive, and capable of managing and resolving conflict.
  • Lead and collaborate with project team members and managers; develop and maintain relationships with owners, vendors, suppliers, and other stakeholders; find ways to improve processes.
  • Facilitate problem solving between M&E subcontractors during construction.
  • Validate design issues related to M&E systems and suggest alternative solutions.
  • Log and post all M&E changes and as‑built information on field drawings.
  • Assist in scope review, budgeting, and justification of M&E change work orders.
  • Direct, monitor, and control the activities of M&E subcontractors.
  • Act as liaison with consultant M&E supervisory engineers, inspectors, and relevant staff.
  • Ensure M&E subcontractors provide and adhere to relevant quality documentation/records.
  • Ensure MEP subcontractors adhere to project safety regulations.
  • Assist in testing and commissioning of M&E equipment.
  • Develop subcontractor scope of work and detail scope delineation.
  • Actively participate in value engineering sessions with the project team.
  • Maintain job files (RFIs, specifications, addenda, construction documents) in both hard and soft copy formats.
  • Prepare, review, and distribute RFIs, submittals, and other contract documents timely; ensure compliance with contract documentation.
  • Purchase and monitor delivery of all needed materials; ensure optimum prices, quality, and conformance to specifications.
  • Execute the project within established financial boundaries; manage monthly financial projections.
  • Develop and manage job progress schedules and ensure construction parallels the schedule.
  • Ensure subcontracts are executed and insurance is in place; provide clear definitions of work responsibility to subcontractors and vendors; review and approve payment requests.
  • Manage the procurement log in coordination with the Project Manager and Superintendent to avoid delays or impacts.
  • Review subcontract and self‑perform change orders on the jobsite; perform quantity takeoffs to validate change requests.
  • Manage the closeout matrix and rolling completion log; compile operation and maintenance manuals for owner closeout packages.
  • Assist in other duties as assigned, relevant to the achievement of the position’s and team’s objectives.
Qualifications
  • College of Engineering, Mechanical or Electrical University degree or equivalent experience.
  • Engineering working knowledge of plans, prints, specifications, and schematics associated with the trade.
  • Five (5) years of construction experience with working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing construction procedures and practices.
  • Detailed understanding of contract documents (drawings and specifications), phasing plans, M&E systems interrelationships, construction sequencing, and project schedule.
  • Computer literate.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
