Rotational Intern Position

This posting is for a rotational intern position with the Compliance, Permitting, Technical Services, and Enforcement Branches, and the Chemical Accident Prevention Program (CAPP) in the Bureaus of Air Pollution Control and Air Quality Planning.

The Compliance team of engineers and scientists inspect facilities with a potential impact to air quality, review the reports and records of those facilities, and use best scientific and engineering judgement to make decisions. The duties of the position within Compliance include reviewing technical reports and stack testing data from facilities, assisting Compliance Staff with inspections of facility records, taking notes during meetings and communicating that information to staff, drafting compliance orders to amend permit requirements, and assisting the Compliance Supervisors with projects.

The CAPP team of engineers inspects and permits chemical processes subject to Nevada's Regulation of Highly Hazardous Substances and Explosives. The duties of the position within CAPP include working directly with engineers to assess chemical plant designs, process hazards, operational and mechanical procedures, and emergency action plans.

The Permitting team of scientists and engineers use facility submitted information to calculated potential emissions and draft permits that facilities must comply with. The Technical Services team analyzes emissions information during the permitting process with historical meteorological data to determine the impact of a facility to ambient air quality. The Enforcement team takes concerns of noncompliance from the Compliance Branch, determines enforce ability from the conditions in the permit, holds hearings with facilities, and recommends penalties to the State Environmental Commission where the Enforcement Supervisor then testifies.

The minimum number of hours required for this position is 20 hours a week during allowable working hours (Monday through Friday between 6 AM and 7 PM), but can work up-to full-time (40 hours per week) during school breaks.
