About the Role
WSP USA is seeking a Civil & Earthworks Jr Designer for our US Mine Waste Civil Design and Drafting Team in Reno, NV. The role involves providing technical design and CADD support on mining, planning, transportation, infrastructure, and technical services projects.
Key Responsibilities- Work within the US Mine Waste Team on civil and geotechnical engineering projects such as mine infrastructure, stormwater controls, landfill design, power sector facilities, reclamation, and groundwater science.
- Create, modify, and develop drawing packages (plans, profiles, sections, details, etc.) primarily in civil design as directed by the Team Leader, team members, and/or project engineer(s).
- Ensure quality assurance in drafting and design plans by adhering to company CADD standards, proper filing protocols, and established workflows across the entire project scope.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, engaging key project stakeholders to understand constraints and identify opportunities for innovative design.
- Assist in collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, concepts, blueprints, and other information to support drafting and design activities for single, multi‑phase, or multi‑site project work.
- Use Autodesk Civil 3D to assist with basic design details and prepare drawings requiring a high degree of precision.
- Manage production of multiple drawings and multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing and meeting deadlines.
- Assist with verifying calculations, design, change orders, interpretation of contract plans and specifications, and escalating any issues or technical problems for appropriate resolution.
- Ensure specification of dimensions, materials, and procedures for assigned projects and compliance with contract requirements.
- Work with cross‑functional teams in executing project work, complete training on assigned tasks, and exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Associate’s degree from an accredited technical school or college in CADD/Engineering technology, or equivalent, required.
- Proficient with Autodesk AutoCAD 2024 or newer; advanced tool usage, external references, annotative objects, and sheet sets.
- Proficiency with Autodesk Civil 3D 2024 or newer preferred but not required.
- Strong understanding of drafting and design support principles, practices, processes, methods, and techniques.
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, both verbally and in writing, conveying ideas clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Strong self‑leadership, attention to detail, willingness to learn new skills, ability to multitask, follow instructions, and adhere to company policies.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively while following supervisory guidance.
- Willingness to adapt to project schedules, sometimes requiring work outside the standard workweek to meet tight deadlines.
- Travel may be necessary at times; may include working in remote settings at project locations for short durations.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects/tasks and respond to the needs of several people.
- Active focus on health and safety for self and others.
