Job Summary

Generac Home is seeking a Staff Electrical Components Engineer to join our growing team. This role ensures selection, quality, reliability, and performance of electronic components across Generac’s energy products, supporting the electrical design team with component selection, in‑circuit performance verification, lead supplier qualification, and technical aspects of electronic commodities.

The successful candidate will conduct process audits, root cause analysis, and resolve supplier‑related quality issues. A strong passion for defect‑free components and subassemblies meeting design specifications is required. Up to 20/25% travel may be required.

This position is ideally based in the S. Portland ME office with optional locations in Waukesha WI or Reno NV.

Major Responsibilities
  • Participate in design reviews with the electrical engineering team, contributing to development and validation of electrical systems, including schematics, PCB layouts, and wiring diagrams for solar and battery energy storage applications.
  • Utilize circuit simulation tools such as LTspice to analyze and validate designs, ensuring component selection meets performance, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
  • Own qualification and technical evaluation of electronic components, including MOSFETs, PCBs, magnetics (wound components), discrete analog/digital components, relays, ICs, and interconnects (cables and connectors).
  • Apply expertise in magnetics design such as transformers, inductors, and chokes, analyzing core materials, winding configurations, and losses.
  • Apply strong expertise in power electronics, including high‑frequency AC–DC, DC–AC, and DC‑DC conversion topologies.
  • Analyze and interpret component datasheets to support optimal part selection, performance, and reliability.
  • Serve as a key contributor in electrical design reviews, ensuring component reliability and alignment with system requirements.
  • Review engineering drawings and specifications to verify quality requirements; identify and communicate gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Identify critical‑to‑quality (CTQ) components within BOMs and manage PPAP activities with suppliers to ensure component quality, reliability, and compliance requirements.
  • Apply 8D problem‑solving methodologies to investigate component issues, conduct root cause analysis and issue SCARS to suppliers to drive effective corrective actions and prevent recurrence.
  • Perform supplier manufacturing process audits and assessments to ensure compliance with quality standards, process controls, and product reliability requirements.
  • Hands‑on experience in electronic parts selection and qualification to ensure parts are qualified by design documents and selected test parameters.
  • Experience working in electronic assembly environments with contract manufacturing where component qualification through Parts PPAP process and IQC was required.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
