Job Overview :
The Energy Controls Manager is responsible for leading the planning, execution, commissioning, and lifecycle management of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Energy Management Control Systems (EMCS). This role provides technical leadership for controls projects while ensuring quality, safety, profitability, and customer satisfaction. The Energy Controls Manager collaborates with project management, engineering, field operations, commissioning teams, and clients to deliver high-performance building systems that optimize energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and operational reliability.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Tasks:
- Lead the execution of building automation and energy controls projects from design through commissioning and owner turnover.
- Manage controls engineering, programming, startup, commissioning, and system integration activities.
- Develop project execution strategies that maximize productivity, quality, and profitability.
- Ensure compliance with company standards, contract requirements, and applicable codes.
- Serve as the technical authority for Building Automation Systems, DDC controls, HVAC controls, lighting controls, and energy management systems.
- Review system architecture, control sequences, network topology, and programming standards.
- Support troubleshooting of complex control systems and integration issues.
- Drive standardization of programming, graphics, databases, and commissioning documentation.
- Lead, mentor, and develop Controls Engineers, Programmers, Field Technicians, and Commissioning Specialists.
- Conduct performance evaluations and identify training opportunities.
- Promote knowledge sharing and continuous improvement throughout the controls organization.
- Champion Rex Moore's Safety First culture.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements and company safety policies.
- Maintain quality assurance standards throughout project execution.
- Participate in safety observations, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Compensation:
Rex Moore pays hourly/salary rates commensurate with each employee's knowledge, experience and skill level.

Work is typically performed in an office environment, although they may occasionally visit worksites to observe a project or to meet with clients

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Equivalent industry experience may be considered.
- 8+ years of Building Automation or Energy Controls experience.
- 3+ years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Experience managing multiple controls projects simultaneously.
