Compensation: $165,000 - $195,000 + discretionary bonus

Our client is seeking an experienced Principal Transmission & Substation Project Manager to lead large-scale utility capital projects while partnering closely with utility clients and multidisciplinary engineering teams. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced project leader who enjoys managing complex transmission and substation programs, mentoring teams, and delivering projects that support the evolving energy grid.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the execution of major electric transmission and substation capital projects from initiation through closeout.
- Manage large infrastructure programs involving transmission lines up to 500kV and complex substation expansion, upgrade, and rebuild projects.
- Oversee projects exceeding $25 million, ensuring successful delivery of scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client expectations.
Direct project portfolios that may include:
- Integrated transmission and substation rebuild programs
- Collaborate with utility clients, engineering teams, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
- Provide clear communication, strong leadership, and effective coordination across multidisciplinary teams.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, risk mitigation, and resource planning while maintaining high-quality project delivery.
- Utilize project management best practices and established PMI methodologies throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives through the adoption of digital technologies, including AI-enabled productivity tools, Microsoft Copilot, and workflow automation technologies.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 15+ years of utility industry experience.
- Extensive experience managing electric transmission and substation projects.
- Proven experience managing infrastructure projects with budgets exceeding $25 million.
- Strong understanding of electric transmission systems up to 500kV.
- Working knowledge of Primavera P6, including reviewing project schedules, milestones, and progress reporting. Advanced scheduling expertise is not required.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and utility clients.
- Working knowledge of SCADA systems and utility communications.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
- Preferred
- PMP Certification.
- Advanced degree in Project Management or related field.
- Strong knowledge of PMI methodologies and best practices.
