Under general supervision, performs basic manual labor and maintenance and/or public service or guide assignments in the Washoe County Park System; and performs related work as required.
This recruitment is being conducted to fill a current non-benefitted seasonal vacancy in Community Services Department – Regional Parks and Open Space Division.
The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur. Seasonal Positions are full or part-time and last no longer than 6 months.
Various Washoe County Parks. Weekend and evening shifts may be required.

Regional Parks:
Three months of public contact experience; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Arboretum:
Three months of nursery, landscape maintenance, or parks maintenance experience; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience
A valid driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
Individuals appointed to this classification will be required to submit to a medical examination. The cost of the examination will be covered by Washoe County.
Background checks will be conducted on selected applicants through the State of Nevada and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Per the Washoe County Background and Reference Checks Policy, new and rehired employees are required to submit to a fingerprint based background investigation. Effective January 1, 2025, the $39.00 fee associated with this background investigation will be paid by the employee (if applicable) and deducted automatically from the first paycheck. Employment is contingent upon the results of the background check, although a record of conviction will not necessarily bar an applicant from employment.
Washoe County requires its employees to reside in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe or Susanville as of their first day of work.
This is not a classified position and is not covered by a collective bargaining unit. “Seasonal hourly employee” means the position is not to exceed six (6) months. Seasonal Hourly employees are “at will” employees and serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.
Retired PERS (Public Employees’ Retirement System of Nevada) employees are responsible for contacting PERS to make sure that they do not go over the assigned PERS earnings limit for a fiscal year in order to retain retirement benefits. PERS phone number is to check for yearly updates.
