The Pharmacy Operations Technician Specialist-SM supports pharmacy leadership in managing daily operations, optimizing workflows, and advancing departmental initiatives. The role oversees automation systems, purchasing, compliance, technician training, and billing reconciliation. This position promotes excellence in pharmaceutical care and ensures compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards, supporting Renown Health's mission to save lives, nurture minds, and care for all people.
Nature and ScopeThis position streamlines pharmacy technician workflows, leads automation and technology operations, manages purchasing and inventory, coordinates training and competency programs, and ensures compliance with USP 795, 797, and 800 standards. The incumbent assists with the planning, coordination, and implementation of operational initiatives that promote efficiency, medication safety, and quality patient care across pharmacy sites – upholding Renown Health's core values of People First, Compassion, Integrity, Collaboration, and Excellence.
Responsibilities include performing and supporting activities related to pharmacy automation, technology, purchasing, inventory management, and compounding operations. The incumbent participates in compounding processes, adhering to all USP standards and departmental procedures to ensure product quality and patient safety. Duties also include assisting with audits and competency programs, maintaining accurate documentation for quality assurance and regulatory audits, and ensuring that compounding environments and equipment are properly maintained and compliant with established standards.
The incumbent is expected to maintain a thorough understanding of pharmacy systems, inventory control processes, and technology tools used to monitor and improve operational workflows. The incumbent assists in data gathering, process evaluation, and the development of solutions that enhance efficiency, compliance, and cost-effectiveness within the department.
Attendance at staff meetings, ongoing training, and participation in quality improvement initiatives are expected.
This position does not provide patient care.
Responsibilities- Support pharmacy automation, technology operations, purchasing, inventory management, and compounding operations.
- Participate in compounding processes in compliance with USP standards and departmental procedures.
- Assist with audits, competency programs, and maintaining documentation for QA and regulatory audits.
- Ensure that compounding environments and equipment are maintained and compliant with standards.
- Maintain understanding of pharmacy systems and tools to monitor and improve workflows.
- Assist in data gathering, process evaluation, and development of cost-effective solutions.
- Participate in staff meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
Education: Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. High school diploma or equivalent required. Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of hospital pharmacy technician experience required. Experience in a lead, trainer, or advanced role preferred.
Licenses: Licensed by the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy at time of hire.
Certifications: National certification Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required within 12 months of hire. Specialized training or completion of an accredited pharmacy certification program is encouraged/preferred.
Computer / Typing: Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computer skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience with Epic, Omnicell, and pharmacy automation platforms preferred. Typing: 30 wpm.
