Position Purpose
Under the direction of the facility leader, this position is responsible for ensuring that the facility is operating efficiently.
Certified Senior Medical Assistant working in a Medical Home and/or medical group setting will be an integral part of the patient's care team. They will work within the healthcare team, working together to achieve top‑quality outcomes and deliver optimal patient‑centered care. This position is required to room patients, track and coordinate test results, educate patients, and assist with closing care gaps.
This role will also serve as a resource and provide education to other medical assistants within the medical group on multiple topics, including but not limited to medical assistant workflow, back‑office processes, and point‑of‑care testing. The candidate may float to various sites within the health system.
Nature and ScopeThis position is fluent in all staff level positions and is an integral part of training, staff development and quality assurance. It models Renown Health's mission, vision and values, adheres to policies and procedures, and meets productivity standards. It is a role model for staff level personnel to emulate.
Key responsibilities include assisting the provider in back‑office duties such as escorting the patient to the examination room promptly, taking vital signs, maintaining room stock, documenting all patient communications, preparing lab specimens, completing referral forms and obtaining authorizations, scheduling patients for tests, prioritizing and filing phone calls, and administering treatments and medications per provider order.
The incumbent must also ensure compliance with medical group standards for delivery and quality of care, promote teamwork, provide patient care based on physical, motor/sensor, psychosocial and safety skills appropriate to the patient’s age, and meet quality standards measured by the medical group.
Additional duties include staying current with all standards to assure compliance with federal, state and local regulatory agencies, including third‑party reimbursement requirements, assisting the manager with daily duties such as competency and quality assurance, developing and maintaining positive working relationships with other departments and outside agencies, and interacting professionally with patients, families, physicians and office staff.
Minimum Qualifications- Education: Must have working‑level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking. Graduation from Medical Assistant school preferred.
- Experience: Requires 2 years in a clinical health‑care position with a minimum of 1 year as a medical assistant. Basic math skills are required.
- Licenses: Current State of Nevada license for Office Laboratory Assistant or Certified Laboratory Assistant, or an application must be submitted within 90 days of employment (certain departments excluded).
- Certifications: Current AHA BLS required within 90 days. Some positions may require DOT and non‑DOT drug testing certifications at time of hire. Ability to obtain and maintain one of the following certifications at time of hire:
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – NHA
- Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) – AMCA
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – AAMA
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) – NCCT
- Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) – NAHP
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – AMT or AAH
- National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT)
- State of Nevada EMT certification – advanced or paramedic
- Computer / Typing: Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computer skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job‑specific competencies, access online forms and policies, and complete online benefits enrollment.
