Physical Therapy, PT Assistant/ Rehab Tech
Position Purpose
This position provides indirect and direct patient care within the rehabilitation environment. The incumbent assists in the management of the physical environment including, but not limited to, cleaning of gym space and equipment, ordering of supplies, basic maintenance of equipment, patient scheduling, and clerical duties.
Nature and ScopeThis position is a supporting role in the Rehab therapy department. It provides continuity of business operations, support functions, and direct patient care functions under the supervision of Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech‑Language Pathologists, and Therapy Leadership. The incumbent is responsible for transporting equipment and supplies, assisting therapists with patient mobility and activities of daily living, transporting patients for speech studies, assisting with feeding patients during speech exams, and performing basic maintenance and cleaning of therapy equipment, including cleaning and reprocessing endoscopes.
The incumbent must possess the ability to communicate with patients and families in a caring and professional manner, and must be able to function independently in a fast‑paced, high‑intensity atmosphere. This position is challenged to maintain accuracy, communicate effectively, function under stress, and identify and maintain priorities while responding simultaneously to requests from various people.
The incumbent will assist therapy staff in a timely and consistent manner. Depending on location of services, these duties include:
- Transporting equipment and supplies
- Clerical responsibilities
- Ordering and stocking therapy supplies
- Assisting therapists with patient mobility and activities of daily living as directed by licensed therapists
- Assisting with higher level balance activities
- Directing patients in therapeutic exercises/activities as directed by licensed therapists
- Setting up and assisting with diagnostic studies
- Performing high‑level disinfection and reprocessing of endoscopes, accurately maintaining comprehensive quality assurance standards related to sterilization and infection control
- Setting up and performing therapeutic modalities (including Mechanical Traction, Electrical Stimulation, and Paraffin) as directed by licensed therapists
- Performing basic maintenance and cleaning of various therapy equipment
- Assisting in scheduling and check‑in/check‑out procedures for patient appointments/schedules
- Taking and recording vital signs as directed by licensed therapists
The incumbent must be able to multi‑task, take initiative, prioritize duties and function independently in a fast‑paced and high‑intensity atmosphere.
Per diem staff are required to work at least one major and one minor holiday each year. Major holidays:
Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. Minor holidays:
New Years Eve, New Years Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day. If an area is closed on major holidays, the requirement is to work at least one day the week of the holiday period.
Requirements – Required and/or Preferred
- Education: Must have working‑level knowledge of English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Experience: None required; applicants with physical disabilities experience is preferred.
- License(s): None.
- Certification(s): Current BLS certification by The American Heart Association standards.
- Computer / Typing: Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, computer skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job‑specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
