Responsibilities

Northwest Specialty Hospital, an extension of Northern Nevada Medical Center, offers acute rehabilitation and adult behavioral health services from a new building located at 6225 Sharlands Ave. in Northwest Reno. The facility provides private rooms, a renovated therapy gym, and personalized care from qualified staff.

Our acute rehabilitation services include occupational, speech, and physical therapy for adults recovering from stroke, injury, or other disabling conditions. We treat conditions including stroke, brain injury, amputation, neurological disorders, major multiple traumas, and spinal cord and back injuries.

The adult behavioral health services expand our current 50 and older program to serve all adults 18 years and older. The department is managed by a multidisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, CNAs, social workers, and therapists. Patients receive individualized care plans, including individual and family therapy, activities, medication management, and access to a 24-hour secure, compassionate environment.

This opportunity is full time, offers full benefits and a convenient schedule. The Occupational Therapy Assistant administers occupational therapy modalities of treatment under the supervision of the staff occupational therapist. It includes administering treatments and physical agents as directed after the therapist has evaluated the patient. The COTA assists with restoration of patient functioning to prevent disability and helps patients reach maximum performance and independence.

The COTA participates in department operations, performance improvement activities, CQI activities, infection control, equipment training, and safety programs.

• Provide treatment as directed by the staff occupational therapist and adhere to physical medicine practice standards.
• Observe and evaluate treatment effects and discuss observations with the staff occupational therapist.
• Perform components of appropriate patient assessments related to therapy requested, including reassessments per policy for neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric and general adult populations.
• Perform all aspects of patient care in a setting that optimizes safety and reduces medical errors.
