Position: DRUG & ALCOHOL TREATMENT COUNSELOR, Full Time

Responsibilities

Northwest Specialty Hospital, an extension of Northern Nevada Medical Center, brings expanded services to a new building located at 6225 Sharlands Ave. in Northwest Reno. The facility will offer acute rehabilitation and adult behavioral health services.

Our acute rehabilitation services include occupational, speech, and physical therapy for adults recovering from stroke, injury, or another disabling condition. We offer advanced treatment for a wide range of conditions including stroke, brain injury, amputation, neurological disorders, major multiple traumas and spinal cord and back injuries. All patients will experience private rooms, have access to a newly renovated therapy gym, and personalized care from our qualified staff.

The adult behavioral health services offered is an expansion to our current 50 and older program  new program will offer behavioral health services to all adults 18 years and older. The department is managed through a multidisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, CNAs, social workers, and therapists. Patients will experience an individualized care plan, inclusive of individual and family therapy, activities, medication management, and a 24‑hour secure, compassionate environment.

This Drug & Alcohol Treatment Counselor opportunity is full time, offers full benefits and a convenient schedule. This individual will provide clinical social services to patients and families through assessment, treatment planning, individual and family therapy, group facilitation, crisis intervention, and discharge coordination. This role supports patients in addressing biopsychosocial needs and developing skills necessary to achieve emotional stability and functional recovery.

The Program Therapist serves as a core clinical member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and is responsible for delivering therapeutic interventions, coordinating care, and supporting continuity of treatment from admission through discharge.

Job Duties /Responsibilities
  • Conduct individual, group, couples, and family therapy sessions.
  • Provide psychoeducation and process therapy groups.
  • Utilize evidence-based therapeutic techniques to address patient needs.
  • Develop therapeutic alliances that support engagement and recovery
  • Assess psychosocial, behavioral, and emotional functioning.
  • Identify treatment needs and risk factors.
  • Document updates when significant changes occur.
  • Consult with families regarding emotional and social needs.
  • Intake paperwork and treatment plan completed within 72 hours of admit.
